The idea has not come to fruition as far as I am aware. The MMOPRG is saturated with fantasy games, a few space games, and little else. I think a live, interactive racing game would be awesome. The way I would set it up would be to have life outside the track, such as jobs fixing cars, setting up races, bookies, and other car or race related employment. The main way to advance levels would be from winning races, or placing in the top three. What do you think? Would you play such a game?
I don't think such a game would be possible. MMORPGs rely on the vastness of different objectives. If one was to be developed solely around racing I don't think it would be very successful or enjoyable
There is a town close to me that is only 7,000 people. It's main business is a sprint car track. If that track was not there, the city would shrivel up and die. I think that racing is more important and diverse than one might think. My game would have a city around the track. There would be varied things to do, but the main attraction would be a racing track. This site alone proves racing games are extremely popular, and people are competitive at heart. It might not be as big as WoW, but it would work, in my view.
I'm just confused about how that would work. Usually, when it comes to MMORPG's it's fetch quest, kill things and escorts. So, wouldn't that be more along the lines of an GTA MMORPG? It DID first start off as a racing game, but changed all due to a glitch. They're mostly fantasy games because you have so much more variety to work with when it comes to them.
Something like Drift City? There have been mmo style racing games before but nothing on the level of say World of Warcraft. I would totally play one if someone managed to pull it off right, and it wasn't bogged down in paying for item upgrades that made it a pay to win race game.
The game that you've described sounds like a simulator game, like Farm Simulator, rather than an MMORPG. I'd say it's a terrible idea that I would never even entertain. I'd rather play The Crew, or any other MMO/MMORPG.
I'm with the other people who mentioned that it seems confusing overall how that would even work- I mean I understand what you're saying conceptually and in theory, and it's all well and good in theory, but I'm not sure there's any way to translate it into reality that would work well and not just be a huge mess.
I'm not sure but I think the closest we have to that right now is the crew which is technically a MOBA racing game. I don't know how an actual MMORPG would work with cars but I suppose someone will probably invent it someday since they are getting closer and closer to combining everything nowadays anyway.
I agree, most MMO are fantasy. It has been done to death. I really feel that people would be into something different. Just because it wasn't fantasy or space, doesn't mean certain quests couldn't still happen. Maybe to fulfill contracts by a mobster you get enough money to upgrade your car? There could be a game hall or casino that you interact with people like a chat room, but you could gamble and raise funds for the entry fee into the race? The possibilities are not as limited as one might think.
Maybe paint a better picture for us of what this game would be, because I'm not really seeing how it would be varied enough to be a proper MMORPG, the things you said we could do could just be considered little side things like betting, fixing cars, etc.
I think this is a very good idea. If it can be integrated into a full game then it will be massive and will provide for a full experience provided that the developers do it right of course.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how something like that would work. Given that MMORPGs are usually based on fetch and kill quests, how would you go around killing things and beasts? I'm sorry, but this idea is pretty non-sensical, given the public conception of MMORPGs today. I'm sure you have thought of something unique, but as long as people will always think of slaying dragons when it comes to hearing about MMORPGs, it will sound stupid to the public.
An MMO obviously makes more sense than an MMORPG for racing games. I'm not really a fan of either concept for racing, though.
I'm guessing instead of quests you would just do races. (and maybe robberies/heists if it were something like GTA) Still the concept would seem quite boring after a while.
I'd consider. If you mean like playing a racing game as if it were an MMORPG, then totally! It sounds pretty cool, but I feel like it would get pretty chaotic quickly because of all the cars flying around.
I think it's possible as long as there is team element plus having small objectives that lead up to a large one. As far as killing goes it can be replaces by takedowns or finishing first.
Isn't NFS World something like that? Last time I checked it was something like this, but that was years ago. I liked to though, it was entertaining, but the progression was so slow I gave up on it.
I think NFS World was a multiplayer. But I felt that it wasn't the best one out there. The game is pretty old, so I feel like the graphics aren't the best, which is why I don't think the game is one of the better ones out there.
I'd be open to at least trying it out. Now does it sound appealing at the moment? Not really. I got my head into other things and racing has taken a back seat to these little projects that I am currently doing. Maybe next time.
