I'm new to this whole racing simulator games, does it involve an actual racing simulator worth at least a thousand dollars, or is it something completely different? New to this, can you guys recommend good racing games to start with? I have prior gameplay experience involving realistic (Gran Turismo, etc) and fantasy (Mario Kart, etc), so I'm sure I know the basics already. Can you guys help?
I mean, it sort of depends on what you own. If you have an Xbox, I'd recommend without a doubt Forza 6 (or 5, though it's nowhere near as good). If you don't, but still have a decent PC, then Project Cars is a decent choice. If you have a PS4, then I've heard mixed things about Drive Club.
Project Cars for sure. The game is not without it's bugs that's for sure; however as far realism in racing goes you can't beat it. Forza has always been a favorite of mine but it lacks in the technical realism aspect if you are looking for a can't miss simulator. I will warn you, however, Project Cars has a steep learning curve. Don't expect to just jump in right out of the gate and be able to race. The turning in the car is one of the hardest things to do so be prepared for some learning pains.
Like sworden said, it depends on which console you have. Forza is exclusive for xbox, while Gran Turismo is exclusive for PS4. I hear good things about iRacing for the PC.
iRacing would also be a great game. Good thing is the game has full support of Oculus Rift and as it's a real sim racing game, I'm sure VR can make it even more realistic. I doubt you'd have to spend thousands of dollars for that.
I would like to recommend Gran Turismo and Tokyo Extreme Racer. These games are both enjoyable and competitive. You can customize your car in each game and then you can make the engine go really fast. Some street racing games limit how fast you can go. But, not in these two games. Every Gran Turismo game is pretty much the same. But, I recommend getting the first Tokyo Extreme Racer game because they do not make games like this. It is very rare to see a game that represents real Tokyo street racers.
It depends on you if your computer can support the Oculus. If it doesn't, you will have to spend some money on a computer good enough to support the Oculus. Combined with the cost of the Oculus, it may cost thousands of dollars.
I hadn't thought of that. Read a review of HTC Vive earlier and learned that you not only fork out $800 for the VR headset, you'll have to spend $800 [more] on a gaming PC. Didn't know VR could be that expensive.
A VR system can be really expensive if you add in the computer itself. You need a legitimate gaming computer to run a VR system like Oculus. Otherwise, the graphics will not run smoothly and you will get major dizzy spells from them. It was a major issue with some of the earlier versions of Oculus where the frame rate wasn't nearly enough to match real life movement.
I suppse then gamers who want to experience gaming in VR will have to wait a little longer until the prices drop a little before they buy anything. To be honest I'm one of those who is going to wait a few years until there are no further improvements to be made and the prices are a little more wallet-friendly.
For realism, I'd have to say that on the next gen systems then you can't beat Project Cars to be honest. If we're talking of all time though, and you've still got a PlayStation 3, then it has to be Gran Turismo for me, and as I've said in another thread on here, even now I still go back to playing it, if I fancy a real racing simulator to pass the time on.
It's probably a good idea to wait until at least the next version comes out. I'm not entirely sure how the oculus works. I'm not sure if the performance of the oculus is based only on the PC hardware specs or the Oculus headset itself needs to be upgraded as well.
Drive Club or Gran Turismo are pretty decent if you have a Playstation, otherwise I'd go with Forza, definitely the better out of the bunch.
Gran Turismo and Forza are the two I would pick out there, but instead of Driveclub I'd put Project Cars on the list instead. Driveclub for me is an arcade racer that tries to incorporate some simulator elements, and while that will be good for some players, I think it falls short of being put in the simulator category.
Right, completely forgot about Project Cars, probably because I didn't play it that much. Still, I don't know if I'd choose Project Cars over Driveclub, after all Project Cars has a lot of arcade aspects as well.
I've got a PC so I'm thinking from what you guys have said Project Cars is the way to go (I'm new to this too) I'm thinking of getting a PS4 this summer so i'll see what kind of joy that brings.
On Xbox I would go with Forza. If you have a PS4 or PC you could go with Asetto Corsa. They're both solid games that should give you a great simulator feel.
After you play the game, please post a review on that game. I think that it's a good game (I just watched the trailer).
