So after a few short seconds of airing a Halloween Special with Charlie Brown, Scandal opens with a steamy hot sex scene. (Yowzers!) Now, I can understand parents can be shocked and appalled by this, but all they have to do is simply turn it off. Instead, a parenting group sent the network letters complaining about it. Do you think it's the network's job to "warn" parents about explicit sex scenes after a cartoon has just been aired or do you think parents should have a pre-conceived notion about a show called "Scandal" and just shut off the television immediately or change the channel? Are parents becoming wimps? I ask because I am a parent and unlike most parents, I guess I'm on top of the game because I DVR every kid show there ever was. So the minute it's over I don't see the show that's on after. Even so, if I were watching this and saw this sex scene I would just turn it off. It's a lot easier than stirring up drama and causing all kinds of headaches.
well it goes both ways. the parents have a good point in saying that they shouldn't have to constantly monitor their children to make sure everything is within their boundaries. on the other side it should be the parents responsibility to determine what is and is not appropriate for their children. its a fine line to try to cross
I think that is poor decision making on the part of the network. They really should be more conscious of the transition in my opinion. Parents aren't always there to turn off the TV or switch the channel. As much as I'm an advocate of parents taking responsibility and keeping content as free as it can be, I still think that sometimes the providers can do a better job and is is one of those cases.
I completely agree with you here. Its embarrassing when it occurs in front of your family. You can not even switch the channel.
Yeah come to think of it I think this has happened to me once or twice when I was a kid and it was awkward whenever it did happen, but at least back then scenes weren't as raunchy as they are now.
You're right but at least she was wearing a one piece bathing suit on those shows. It was more the thought of her sexiness that made for the most controversy whereas now they even show men's butts in some cases as well as women being a lot less covered. Not that I'm complaining though. This is the age of free and accessible porn so I understand.
I am surprised that ABC airs such raunchy shows to be honest. They are owned by Disney afterall. Though I know there are a lot of sexual innuendos in Disney movies. "How can there be a ballroom with no balls!"
After a certain age you are immersed in everything sex. If I had a child I would do my best to keep them away from all that until the inevitable.
