Is CJ The Greatest Character In The History of The GTA Series?

CJ is not even the greatest protagonist of the series, in my opinion that award falls to Tommy Vercetti, he was just such a badass.
After that I like Michael, he's pretty cool when he's not focusing on his family issues and instead is focused on a job.

 

Spot on with Ken Rosenberg! He was hilarious and brilliantly voiced by Fichtner.

I found CJ quite bland to be honest. Maybe it's that I don't connect with the whole gangsta' thing or maybe he just didn't have enough depth to him but I found him lacking personality.

 

I like Malvin Harris, known as ''Big Smoke'', I like his entire role in this game, everything about him.

 

Sincerly CJ was good but not that good. He played his role very good as a gangster same as Trevor did as a psycho or Johnny as a biker. In my opinion the greatest character is Tommy Vercetti.

 

I don't think the point of the character was for you to be sympathetic, but for you to e amused so much you'd want to keep playing, no Cj in opinion isn't the best, I think Tony was

 

Well according to the GTA wikia he is the most successful protagonist!
By the end of San Andreas he is very, very rich in-universe. His assets and business interests include the Groove Street Families Gang and Madd Dogg's contract in Los Santos, a lot of different properties in San Fierro, and he owns some of the shares of Four Dragons' casino business.
But still, I like the protagonist from 4 and 5 more.

 

Wow that's an interesting point, how does Tommy Vercetti hold up in this ranking?
Surely he is also super rich.

 

No, in my opinion Tommy Vercetti was the better character as compared to CJ. CJ wasn't appealing as a gangster compared to Tommy Vercetti.

 

Well, I haven't played GTA V yet. So yea CJ is a really good character in San Andreas. I like his personality and gameplay. Niko Bellic in GTA IV wasn't good at all. I didn't really like him much. The main character in GTA 3 wasn't that impressive either. So yea CJ is the best in my opinion.

 

That's just considering the main protagonists though, not all characters in the game, do you like any secondary characters?

 

He's 3rd for me. It now currently stands, Michael and then Tommy Vercetti finally CJ. There is just something about Michael that I love. I have no clue why but I just really adore him. He's such an interesting individual.

 

I like Michael a lot too, I think it's because he's a guy that just wants to lounge by his pool and be left alone but he keeps getting dragged into all sorts of messes, either by his family or by his friends.

 

Nah - he makes a good fourth if we're making a top ten list, but easily outclassing him are Niko, Tommy Vercetti, and Johnny Kleblitz for me. I don't know man... CJ was kind of whiny all things considered.

 

I think CJ is overrated. Just because he's the protagonist of one of the best GTA games, it doesn't make him the best character. What makes SA great was the entire package, not the protagonist. I prefer Tommy more than CJ.

 

I think people may feel this way because he was the most customizable protagonist of all, but I totally agree that he is overrated. Tommy all the way!

 

I do think that he is just an average Joe, who's past keeps catching up with him. He doesn't want to keep being dragged into this mess. I do think he could maybe stop a bit of the things he gets into but yeah, I just feel he may be liking it a bit to much.

 

He enjoys it sometimes, he's no saint, as proven by his past, but he seems a bit unwilling to do some stuff, he enjoys the rush of heists though, that's for sure.

 

He probably doesn't hate everything that's going on with his life. As you said he probably loves the feeling he gets from robbing stores and pulling off the improbable. It's the full fact his wife can't be trusted and his kids are insane.

 

I would have to agree - SA is more about the map and extras for me then CJ's personal story.

 

That's right, he's most customizable because we can make him fat, muscular, thin, and so on but that is the mechanics of the game, not the character himself. No matter how we shape him up to be, his character as a whole remains the same.
