I know Forza is often compared to Gran Turismo for it's realistic driving physics. I also know Forza has cars that will get damaged, unlike GT. What other similarities do they have and which game do you prefer?

Forza motorsport 2 for Xbox 360 is still my all time favorite racing game. It has the perfect amount of customization and realism never before seen in a game. I feel like it was a real turning point for racing sims. I'm obviously biased as you can tell, but I believe the whole forza franchise to be a much better simulation of racing. I also love how things like damage give you more rewards for winning races, letting you customize your difficulty as you get better.

The damage part really seems enticing. That was a huge part that was missing in Gran Turismo. It's such a realistic game, but then you can just crash into the wall without doing any damage to your vehicle. I definitely need to get Forza 6.

It makes it much more realistic, but man it could make you SO MAD!!! I remember putting on simulation damage in a 200-odd lap race. Literally hours of racing, all wasted when I caught some grass on a turn and destroyed my engine on a wall. Had to restart the whole race. It's great for getting extra credits in the beginning, but it can really mess you up in those long races.

That would really bum me out, but you have to appreciate it staying true to realism. You can realistically crash at any part of the race whether it be the first lap or the last lap. Is the damage ever bad enough where you can't drive anymore or it is always drivable? I think in iRacing, you can actually get to a point where you just can't drive the car anymore.

200 laps and back to 0 after racing for hours. There are many who'd give up after that. I've played some long races and when an opponent whizzes past on the last stretch it doesn't feel that great.

Anyway, in as far as graphics are concerned Forza has the better graphics but they don't make the game better. If I had to choose between Forza and GT, I'd choose GT.

Personally I was always a huge fan of Gran Turismo over Forza, even though I did enjoy both. The damage issue on Gran Turismo though was a problem, and considering it was billed as a racing SIMULATOR but you could hit a wall at 150mph and there would be no damage was a little annoying to say the least.

Gran Turismo seems to be a lot more "professional" physics wise but Forza 6s physics are also pretty nicely done. Forza also has a lot more aftermarket bodykit options avalibel compared to Gran Turismo and of Forza has the livery editor while Gran Tuirismo has the Track creator.

Forza also has the rivals mode where you can compete in time trials and try to beat the best times at tracks set by others and I have to say that I really like the feature.

I like Forza better simply because of the damage mechanic. Don't get me wrong, GT is amazing, but I have a thing against racing games without some sort of crash damage.

It is pretty funny the more I think about it. I used to slam into other cars on turns and would bump them into the grass or into the sand traps. With no damage to the cars, you could get away with doing that.

I still wonder why GT never implemented vehicle damage. There has to be some reason for it. It has to be more than just it be too much work to program it in.

Yeah, it's really weird how they never implemented crash damage. I'm sure there must be a good reason though, I just can't seem to figure it out.

That's a good point. I like how in Forza you can have bumpers come off and other things like wing mirrors or spoilers. I really like that and it sort of adds a lot of immersion into it. I wish it was a little more sensitive though because it would make hard fought races seem that much better fought, if that makes sense?

I agree with you. That the most important point that you digged out.

When it comes to racing simulators, realism you'd have thought would have been the main priority, and so that should include damage.

It's not that people want to crash into others and wreck their cars, but if they could actually see the damage appearing it would help their driving skills aswell.

Forza is the best game of the bunch when it comes to realism and physics, but I'm actually impressed by GT's gameplay and atmosphere.

Forza does not allow you to customize the car performance. Gran Turismo allows players to tune their and adjust transmission. You can also adjust different mechanic parts. Forza looks good but that is all.

Customisation is a big thing when it comes to racing games, and I think that's where Gran Turismo sets itself apart from the others. You actually get a feeling that the changes you make have a massive effect on the car your driving.

I am also more partial to having crash damage even though I know how frustrating it feels whenever it happens. It makes me wonder why gt has not implemented it considering the extreme realism that all games now seem to aim for.

One of the fundamental aspects of racing is crashing. That's why I feel that it's important for the game developers to at least try and add a bit of crash damage into the games, and they only have to learn the lesson from Gran Turismo.

That was widely considered as one of the best driving games made to date, but it needed to have crash damage. The fact it didn't ruined the game completely for a lot of people.
