Do you think Vice City had a large enough map?

The map seemed pretty big at the time when I played it which is all that matters to me. Now, looking back at it the map seems quite small which makes replaying the game kind of tough. Most games will eventually seem dated though no matter what.

Being able to swim would've added some more depth to the map as they could've included a few off shore islands to explore. Never understood why swimming only came into the series with San Andreas.

Well it was one of the earlier games, so I'm not surprised if it lacked more cities as compared to the later sequels. For my standards, the Vice City map is big enough in my opinion.

Vice City was big enough for me then. I usually start driving towards a mission location, and midway end up in a hospital or a police station :D.

In my opinion for the release date of the game the map is quite big. Not only that but the story is more than thrilling as well. It's one of the best games for it's time for sure. I was amazed when San Andreas came out later with the huge map.

I personally believe that the map size in the game was just fine really. It is crazy because I know that map by heart. I know exactly how to get every single place on the map without even looking at the map. It's crazy that you play a game long enough and you can remember it all like that. I mean it is seriously just like driving around in my own city where I live, that is how well I know that map!

It's true that by current standards, Vice City's map is quite small. However, looking back to the time this game was released, I think the map was already sufficient enough for the player to explore. Besides, the several missions in the game already compensate for the size of the map.

Liberty City and Los Santos are easier to make bigger maps of because they're based off New York and Los Angeles which have a lot of neighborhoods and so many areas that you can make. Miami on the other hand doesn't have a lot of neighborhoods or areas, so it's hard to make a big map off of that.

When compared to the newer titles like San Andreas then one would say no. I understand that at that moment when the game was being developed, technology was not as advanced as today and the developers had to take into consideration the effect of having a large landscape would have on the hardware resources on PCs and consoles.

In that time it was big enough, in my opinion. There wasn't such a high demand on a big world such as in San Andreas or any newer GTAs. And in that time making such a big environment for the user could be really hard, and a lot of people wouldn't have the chance to play, because of the high sepcification that would be needed to run this game. If there would be other games with larger map than it was in Vice City, then I would find it too small and dissapointing, but since there wasn't any game that reached that expectation I wasn't dissapointed and I really enjoyed the map as it was and with no further demands. But if I look at it now, it would get pretty boring, because I got used to big maps on a lot of games and it would become boring after some time exploring the map.

I always felt that the map was a little too small for me. I grew up playing RPGs. Even GTA San Andreas map could have been a bit bigger, but I still enjoyed it.

Nowadays, the maps are not only bigger but have more things to do on them.

The only map that is correct size is the one on GTA 5. All maps on every game should now be that size, even on Call of Duty every map should be that size, oh the madness.

For its time period, that was a pretty big map and it was fun to look around. Now, it just looks miniscule compared to San Andreas and GTA5. GTA4 also had a smaller map, but that's irrelevant right now. The point is, at that point in the GTA games, that was a big map. it was an upgrade from GTA3.

Definitely big enough, I remember those horrible loading screens whenever you passed the bridge to the other island...huge pain in the ass. I couldn't stand any more of that, even for a bigger map.

Plus, I lived in Miami in the 1980's and now. That map is realistic. In the 80's, certain areas of Downtown Miami and South Beach were not as nice as they are now. A lot of businesses were boarded up on South Beach and there were a lot of old people until around 1987 when the artists started bringing the area back and opening cool shops and clubs. So if they had made the map larger, they would've had to include some ugly, boarded up parts of Miami and some empty lots. When they used to film Miami Vice here, they focused on the good areas.

I think that the map could have been bigger, I had pretty much everything explored pretty early and knew the map inside out. But then again, I just love endless maps, and nothing's big enough for me :p. Still, the map that was available to play on, was interesting, fun and gorgeous :D.

Nah I think the map should have been a little bigger. I live in Miami and I loved how similar to the real thing it looks but I saw most of it way too early.

The map of Vice City was maybe not the biggest map of GTA games but it was very well designed, it had feeling, it had flow and it really felt like a hawaian city from the 70's, the atmosphere, the awesome sunsets, the missions, everything fit in perfectly.

It was big enough for its time. I enjoyed the map a lot and remember almost every route in that game. :p

I loved the ambience of Vice City. If there is a GTA: Vice City remake, I would like it to have a bigger map, though. However, I believe that the atmosphere is more important than the area and Vice City executed it perfectly.

Unfortunately the map isn't too big. But there were a lot of fun things to do around it, you could drive easily from one corner to another, etc. The game features made the map seem a bit larger in my opinion.
