I've tried real life driving simulator where you have to obey all laws and so on. Idea was good, but the game felt pretty bad and really needed a proper controller with a clutch and a manual gearbox.
Great question, most people who play racing games don't think of these simulators to be a part of the group. I personally play the truck simulator series every so often and they are quite relaxing, and a good break from typical vehicle games.
I actually quite like the idea of delivering goods around the world on a non racing, but driving simulator kind of game. It sounds a bit like the airline games that used to be popular on the PC a few years ago, and while there isn't any racing involved, it concentrates more on your driving ability and also your timing.
Before this thread, I didn't even know that games such as this existed so I'm definitely going to try and give it a go. While I'm usually a racing game fanatic, I do like the sound of a game like this and want to give it a go.
I play Mario Kart 64 because it's the best one. The kart racing games started to suck after playstation and nintendo 64. In general, I still play non racing games.
My dad introduced me to a truck game on pc. It was a fun game at first but then it got boring. I use to deliver cargo and made some money. I don't play games like that anymore.
I can imagine a game such as that getting a little tedious after a while, but I guess for some people they'll enjoy games such as that. Instead of a racing game, I'd imagine it's more about strategy than actual driving ability, so a combination of the two though would be the appeal to some.
I can't believe that it turned boring for you. I have played that game and I must say, it's one of the best games out there.
As with all games though, I think a lot will depend on why an individual plays a game in the first place. This type of game is more about attention and strategy rather than thrills and spills.
The most refined would probably be Euro Truck Simulator 2, or if you want great scenery you can pick up American Truck Simulator, and you can drive though San Francisco or Vegas. If you want something different you can try Train Simulator 15 or Bus Simulator, or construction simulator. Now these games are not that good but they are pretty realistic simulators.
