The first few weeks as a Driveclub player could definitely be frustrating. Network glitches made it difficult or impossible to play the game online. It was like having a beautiful brand new car, but losing your license to take it out on the road.

Sony and Evolution Studios want you to know they’re sorry about that, and to prove it they’ve devised a peace offering in the way of free DLC. According to a Facebook post from the official Driveclub account, Driveclub is giving away November’s planned premium DLC. The post details what’s coming:

These premium DLC packs – The Ignition Expansion Pack and Photo-Finish Tour Pack along with two livery packs – will give you a total of five new cars, 22 new tour events, 10 new trophies and 10 new livery items to play with online and offline.

The Season Pass will be extended to include four extra packs in July 2015 to ensure players who purchased the pass get everything that was promised. So on top of the free DLC in November, the Season Pass will still include 38 cars, 176 tour events and 80 unique liveries.

The post also provides some details about the game’s first update, which arrives tomorrow and includes a photo mode, three new tracks, and a few physics and options tweaks. The new tracks are: India – Yedepalli; Scotland – Wester Ross; and Chile – Los Pelambres.

And sorry, PlayStation Plus players. Still no update on when that free version you were promised is coming. It was delayed indefinitely while the developers grappled with the network problems at launch.

Nice to see Sony doing this to make amends. Hope that the server issues are all but resolved. This move should also act as some good PR.

It always amazes me how many glitches modern games have. Maybe it's because the same game development techniques are being used for a long time and they've stretched them to the absolute limit, or maybe because the big companies got lazy and don't test their games as good as they did before. Whatever is the reason, I can see a trend here, and I don't like it.

This must be the year with the MOST bad decisions and the MOST public apologies made by developers.

I think it's just the online features that most of these developers are having problems with, which I think is understandable since online gameplay is still a relatively new thing as I don't think it's even a decade old at this point. I'm glad they are smart enough to offer compensation for the inconvenience though. Too much arrogance and improper treatment of fans is the one trait I'd be more bothered with. Mistakes to me are understandable.

A lot of people are going to take the free DLC and be content with all of the launch issues, which isn't going to help gamers in the long run. Launch issues are becoming more common than ever before, in both single and multiplayer.

I can't believe how rushed out this game still seemed even after being delayed by almost a year. What were they thinking? I am going to give this DLC a go though.

The dlc is a nice way to clean up their mess but I still won't buy the game. It got my hopes up with the trailers but when I played the ps plus edition of driveclub I was greatly disappointed. The driving physics are horrible and the AI drivers are very ignorant. The game also had glitches that would slow you down occasionally when you crash. It's not easy when the ai drivers are constantly ramming you and slowing you down. And when you want to escape the terrible single player the multiplayer doesn't even work. I think this is the most disappointing and frustrating game I have ever played.
