I don't know much about it because I have only played it a few times. I was wondering if the character was always the same and how you would feel if it were suddenly a different character.

They are never the same. In fact each has a uniquely different protagonist. In 3 Claude a common criminal jumping from boss to boss doing jobs for money. Vice Tommy Vercetti A mafia hit man who has to set things right after being set up. San Andreas CJ an ex gang banger who has to go back to his old life after coming back home and realizing how bad things have gotten. 4 Niko Bellic an eastern European ex soldier immigrant who came to america for a better life and to escape his old one. And now 5 with its 3 Main characters and each involved in their own conflict and resolutions that go along to form 1 major arc over all. If you havent played any of the old ones you should go check them out they are each unique and special in the story they tell.

New characters weren't so confusing, because there were whole new cities, cars and such. I don't think missions were similar either. If you've never played older GTA games, you should definitely try it. After all nobody is forcing you, and you shouldn't play if you don't like them.

I doubt it, in any case the protagonist is largely a faceless individual with only minimal backstory. You create your own legacy via what you do in the game.

It's a different "bad guy" so to speak in every version of the game. The slate is mostly blank and your kind of create your own history for the guy based on what you do inside the game. It's a pretty cool thing in my opinion. Rather than having some pretentious bad guy with a back story. I like this concept a lot better.

None of the characters have been the same. They might have some similarities between various characters in the series but none are the same. For instance Carl from San Andreas and Franklin from GTA V are both from the same game but Franklin struggles with depression and Carl is the one person not depressed and trying to pull his family together. Rockstar does a good job of creating unique characters.

I think every character has had a different personality and they all have subtly different missions because of it. I would agree that they all pretty much play the same but I consider that a good thing since it's better to keep them that way and instead just change the surroundings so that I wouldn't have to keep learning new moves for each version.

No, it doesn't. In fact, GTA 5 actually has 3 different characters you can play as. Each GTA game has a unique and equally unique character. Claude, CJ, and Niko, just to name a few of the previous ones.

I really do not think so. I think that they do a good job of creating better characters for each game and in this one they didn't even create one but they created three.

The character is always different, in every game. I don't know who they were in 1 and 2. In GTA 3 there was Claude Speed (he makes an appearence in Gta San Andreas), in Vice City there was a guy named Tommy or something, I forgot honestly. In San Andreas there is Carl Johnson, in GTA IV there is Niko Bellic, and in Episodes from Liberty City there are two new characters, Luis and Johnny. In GTA V there are 3 completely new characters: Trevor, Michael and Franklin.

In every GTA game, there are new characters. Also, there are a few GTA games which I didn't mention, because these were console exclusives, so I never played them.

I partially agree with most of the posts made here, but I just can't agree that not EVERY gta game has the same main character. Let's be honest, most of the characters are in the same situation. whether they've been in prison,or in a gang. I don't understand how people can think Franklin was depressed, I didn't see that in his character at all. To be honest, I saw a lot of Carl in Franklin, and it doesn't really surprise me, because GTA needs a character like that. Trevor and Michael were definitely unique though, and it seems like that pattern's going to continue into the next game, because for the first time ever, the main character will be a woman! I honestly can't wait for that, even though I'll have to wait like four years for it.

No GTA doesn't have the same protagonist in ever game. They change with every game. Each game has its own hero or ant-hero as you'd call it.

Yeah this is the same way that I feel and I have been playing GTA for a long time and it keeps getting better with every single game. This one was by far the best GTA that I have ever played too.

GTA games change protagonists with each iteration. This one, GTA V, has 3 main protagonists you can switch between. I think that so far the best protagonist was GTA IV's, Niko, because you actually felt all the shit that he went through.

Never the same. They might do the same things but their stories are always different. I think that's what makes GTA such an established series because of it's diversity and amazing writers.

I would not call Franklin, Trevor and Michael faceless with a minimal backstory. Have you actually played GTA V? Michael and Trevor already have a history and no other GTA characters could replace them. They have unique personalities and there's never been a GTA character as crazy as Trevor.

When you say that you have only played "it" a few times, which GTA game are you referring to?
I just wondered which of the characters is the one you have played as. I assume it's not GTA V because that one has 3 main characters.

I believe my uncle was talking about something similar to this. He was saying that he wasn't into Grand Theft Auto because it felt like it has the same outline for a good majority of it's games. His example was the fact that you're usually playing a white main lead that always starts off from the bottom and that they get rich and control everything by the end of the game. Where has if you play a black lead of their series, you're ALWAYS in a gang making your way to the top to control everything.

Frankly, I could see his point, kind of. It would be different to see an already successful black character in the game that wasn't part of the game and just raised to the top via other means.

However, I see it like this: Grand Theft Auto is like South Park, you take something that is already blown out of proportion and make it even MORE ridiculous that what it is in real life.
