Do you prefer more realistic games (a la Gran Turismo), or more arcadey games (a la Burnout 3/4)?

Mario Kart is by far my favorite racing game. I agree with you that because there are no real life restrictions, the game is more fun and that's the reason why I'm playing a game in the first place.

It all depends on my mood really. Sometimes I'm in for some ridiculous fun and just play NFS / Burnout but when I really want to ''try-hard'' then I'll be playing games like GT. I never really go for achievements in the NFS titles but in GT they feel really rewarding. So it's always GT if I'm being serious or something else if I'm not

Why can;t we like both acing games? The good example will e Forza series. They have managed to balance the game so that it's arcady as well as realistic at the same time.

Yeah it's also something you can play with the kids and it's easy and fun for them too.

Both are great for different reasons - but I think the point is if you had to pick one, and I'd certainly pick arcade. Arcade would for sure include mario kart and the newest Need for Speed, while leaving the simulations, which always have a clear winner at the end of the day, aside. Project Cars right now seems unbeatable to me if you're talking about a raw simulation of what actually racing a car is with the graphics to back it up.

Racing in simulation games seems easier to but I don't know why. Arcade games the cars are hard to control to me, maybe because their handling model is made so that the player can mash on the gas and never let up. Simulation racers just seem like my kind of game.

Well I like having options, so I like both. The realistic games are really cool, but the arcade looking race games can be cool as well. I think that they are both great especially for me, because I love playing something different at times. I just love different things at different times it depends on my mood.

I'd definitely have to pick arcade racing games. I've never been much of a fan of realistic racing games. I know it might seem a little sadistic, but my favourite thing to do in racing games is crash my car in the most spectacular, destructive way that I possibly can, and that tends to be a lot more fun when the car goes flying from one side of the map to the other on fire, and then land on its wheels and be fine to keep going. I remember I played this one racing game called 'Crash and Burn' before, and there was a Kamikaze mode, which had eight cars going one way, and eight cars going the other way. The winner would either be the first to cross the finish line, or the last car left standing. The crashes in that game were freaking amazing, and it really set my expectations for Racing games.

I agree with you in that it's always great to find games that strike a good balance, because overall I really do not want to have to pick ;) lol. I do enjoy a good variety with games and there are different things that I enjoy about each type. I guess just to be fair though, if I absolutely had to pick just one style I'd say that I prefer arcadey games. There's a little more of that fun and escapism from reality going on in them, and some of them don't seem to take themselves as seriously as the more realistic games do.

And we can't forget the potential for spectacular and impossible crashes, too :). Who doesn't love that?

I think I prefer more arcadey games, I don't know why but I get more interested in the latter than realistic racing games.

Before I answer, I have to say I love and enjoy both. I've been buying into both for a long time and will continue to do so.

With that said, I do like arcade racers more. The reason being is that I like to have fun immediately. With arcade racers, you don't have to know anything about cars really. It's just jump up and go play. Realistic games while fun, can turn into a trying experience depending on how good you are at tweaking cars. And it can get to the point of frustration.

Yea I would probably go for an in-between game like either of the two you've mentioned. Having said that, I would much rather play Burnout that I would Gran Turismo. I actually find games like Gran Turismo incredibly boring.

I like arcade-style racing games. It adds to the fun, but then again, I also like very realistic games... I'll have to think about this one for awhile... But seriously, I also agree. I love games that have a very good balance between realistic and arcade-style.

Good point. I think being able to do non realistic things in a game is a huge bonus and it's partly why I'm not totally for the trend of extreme realism in games. Now that you mention it I think it is really what Nintendo shines at.

I like a good balance between the two. Something with a ton of customization and open world. However it needs to nail down the basics at least. It's great if it can provide the customization and great physics and thrilling races. I can play either extreme and find both great. But, if you can land somewhere in the middle that's the best for me.

I like both, I must admit, as both types have the pros and cons. I have played more the arcade-like type, though. Need For Speed is somewhat in between, and that's just the way I like it the most.

Arcadey all the way for sure, I'd prefer a twisted metal to a need for speed 10 times out of 10 any day of the week.
