According to Evolution Studios, the connectivity and server issues that plagued its new PS4 racer Driveclub since launch have now subsided and most players should be able to get online with the game.

According to a Facebook post made on the game’s official page over the weekend there are still issues to work through, but in general players should be able to play the game online as intended.

We’re still improving server performance to get all of you enjoying full online connectivity together, but the majority of DRIVECLUB players should now be able to connect and play online.

More server updates and upgrades are coming online over the weekend, so while this work continues you may still experience some issues with connectivity but please keep trying. When you do get connected you can go online, play for your club, use your club cars, play multiplayer races, compete in face-offs, and compare your best times and scores with everyone on the leaderboards. This is in addition to playing in Tour mode, creating your own single events and customising your cars in your garage (which you can do offline too).

Driveclub has been a mess since its Oct. 7 release, when players found themselves largely unable to get connected because of overloaded servers. Because of the fiasco Sony pulled its plans to offer a free PlayStation Plus version of Driveclub this month, and there has been no announcement of when that will be coming out.

I have not bothered to go online with this game yet. I am still playing the single player missions.

The game was nearly unplayable online for awhile there, which is always a disaster when such issues plague hyped games. Then again, Driveclub does suffer from other issues that have nothing to do with fixing servers!

There really shouldn't be overwhelming server issues if enough funding and maintenance were carried out. Just look at games like Destiny, with much larger playerbases and zero connectivity issues. It's honestly disappointing and I hope no more server troubles arise.

Honestly stuff like this doesn't surprise me the least because I've been playing lots of MMOs. MMO's are often unplayable for the first week of release due to server issues. I guess it's the same for Driveclub, everybody wants to play it right away and the servers simply can't handle it. After a few weeks it's always fine and then people can really start to appreciate the online aspect of this game.

I agree with you Qarnage, but don't you think the game developers should have already learned already? Almost every single MMO goes down on release day because of the amount of people that want to try out the game. Shouldn't they learn that they should get better servers for release day because of all the bad releases in the past? I feel like it's a weak spot in the industry, and if a company actually gets working servers, I feel like it will be a lot better for the general view of the game. First impressions do mean a lot.

I just hate when games get launched with problems like these. It's a super important part of the experience and there's already problems on the start...

Definitely. Things like stress tests and beta's should be used to test these kinds of things, not the first week of launch. I think part of it is that the community is already used to it and many of them accept this kind of stuff so the developers are not that inclined to fix it. Another thing might be that they will have to pay for extra servers which they will end up not using after about a month. I've seen many games that added more servers where each of them had a low population and they had to merge them after a couple of weeks. This is also negative for the user experience.

They really are off to a rocky start. I think it's understandable since starting out is often riddled with problems, but hopefully they will get their act together soon and I'm glad Sony is actively doing work to compensate for the inconvenience.

It's always so annoying when a game launches with problems like this. Although there must have been a huge volume of people trying to get online they should have been better prepared. At least they are rectifying their errors now, hopefully they'll be better for next time.
