During the time of the N64, four player split screen racing was the norm. The PS1 tried hard to follow suit and was able to achieve the feat in some of the games. I have played a number of four player split screen games in the past like F-Zero X, Wipeout 64, and Crash Team Racing. Have you played 4-player split screen racing with your friends too?
I think I played Mario Kart N64 split screen racing at a party as a kid. That's about it. It's hard to come by these days. I've seen 2 player split screen nowadays but I don't even know if anyone does 4 player anymore.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy and alot of fun but it makes me sad not alot of games have it anymore besides mario kart.
I remember playing 4 player split screen, but it has been a very long time since I have had to do that. Probably back when I use to have a Gamecube.
Back when multiplayer gaming was mostly relegating to the couch get togethers my friends and I did that all the time. But thanks to online gaming I don't have to share my screen anymore. There was nothing I hate more than my opponents actually SEE what I was doing in a game.
The advent of online gaming probably diminished the four-player split screen mode of play especially when online gaming was introduced to consoles as well. Though there are a lot of negatives when playing four player split screen (small screen space, seeing the other opponent's moves), it was still so much fun, maybe even more fun than online.
@Ghost Rider- sure there was the fun factor. But the fun didn't actually come from the game itself. It came from the social aspect of friends being in the same room with enthusiasm. But IF everyone has a headset for online gaming it's almost as fun.
i do not see that anymore with the integration of online being so prevalent, but it is by far the most fun way to play a game
I have played 4 played split screen racing, and I am not a big fan of it. It is not my type of game, and I don't like it too much. It is kind of a nuisance, especially if you are playing on a smaller television.
Always used to be Mario Kart with friends or my silblings. Use to be great fun, although that always use to be on a tiny TV. I would love to do something like that now on like a cinema screen
I've never played 4 player split screen, and I don't think I'd like it. I have enough trouble liking 2 player split screen whether it be a racing game or otherwise. I'd still love to be able to play 4 players at a time, though, I would just rather we all be on separate TVs.
I worry that playing on split screen would be difficult since everything would get scaled down for each player, even for Mario Kart, though I guess it's much easier for this game since every graphic is colorful and pronounced so it shouldn't be very hard to see especially if you have a big enough TV.
I used to play Mario Kart in 4 player split-screen back in the day. I also played F-Zero X, but I'm not sure you could have 4 players in that game, I seem to remember it had a 2 player maximum. Both are great series, but F-Zero tends to be forgotten often when people talk about racing.
I did play like that. Its a bit messy and the screen gets too little so I don't like it that much. It's still cool though to play as 4.
I think racing games are one of the best things to play on a splitscreen, primarily because seeing your opponent's screen does not give you any advantage, unlike an FPS for example, where it could be used for cheating.
I missed out 4 player split screen racing. It must have been something. I watched some kids playing a two player split screen and the one who was better would occasionally stop playing so he could instruct his friend how the game was played. Nice it was. I wonder if those who played 4 player split screen games could stop to help a friend? Or would they finish the game first?
Nope, I've never done 4 player split screen...it seems like it would be more annoying than entertaining to me. I think I'll just stick with 2 player, that's more than enough going on .
I've played 2 player split screen but I've never played 4 player. I don't really like split screen games that why me and my husband have 2 x boxes and 2 televisions side by side.
The old mario kart games on 64 were a ton of fun with friends. Now it seems like most of the time I just play with friends online instead of in person. I kind of miss the split screens and sleepovers days.
