I use automatic when I'm just starting to play the game and learn. I switch over to manual when I feel like I mastered automatic. In certain games, the only way you can go faster is by going manual as automatic isn't always 100% reliable.
I don't want to make the racing harder by having to also concentrate on gear shifting. I always choose automatic transmission on any racing game that lets me.
It really depends on the game you are playing, and where you are playing it... Arcades - Manual always. PC - Manual for most games Gaming System - Depends on the controller I really don't want to play Burn Out on manual mode. But why would I play something, like Need for Speed, with automatic gear shifting?
Never used a manual mode unless a race in the game demanded it, like the drag races in NFS. Automatic lets us focus more on the gameplay especially when it reaches amazing speeds. Though I am great at a manual gear in the real world, I would be lost in a racing video game.
Whoa! You never used manual in real life? How do you manage to drive around then? As far as racing games are concerned, I prefer automatic.
I've never mastered how to use manual transmission in games. As for real life, well I can't drive. I'm a pedestrian. So, both of those statements are relevant to me.
Same here. I like manual in real driving but in games it's a bit more frustrating for me for some reason. I'm much more used to manual driving in real life but in games I'm terrible at it.
When I am playing with my keyboard, I'd always prefer to be automatic. When I am using my wheel, on the other hand, I'd like to have manual transmission, as the wheel has a shift knob on the side. It feels quite more realistic to both steer and think about your speed and appropriate shifts than to just drive and not care about anything.
I just can't master manual transmission in racing games. I just can't fathom it. Maybe it's because I don't drive in real life. I just stick to automatic. So much easier.
I have used manual several times but I can't keep up with it. So I end up using automatic the rest of the time.
Manual is just too difficult for me. I always use automatic. Always. Every time I race in a game, and that's a choice, I use automatic.
This is a good way to go about it. It certainly helps knowing the course already once you switch to manual. I think I'm going to try this method for myself next time.
I might try it sometime, but I doubt it. I'm not sure I'll ever get manual transmission. Maybe it's because I don't drive in real life? I failed my driving test a long time ago...
I have tried to use manual transmission in games, but it's much harder to do it than in an actual car. I got to the turns and I forgot to shift down and the car stalled, or I shift up too soon. I would love to be able to use it on games like Gran Turismo, but it's way too complicated for me.
Does anyone have tips on using manual transmission? I just can't get the hang of it. I can't quite get the timing of the gear switching. I also lose all of the speed if I crash.
I think some games give bonuses to people who play manual, so it gives me an incentive to pick it even if it is more difficult. I tend to pick automatic when I just want to relax, though. I already drive a manual in real life, and sometimes that's much more than enough shifting for me.
I've always just stuck with automatic...I think the manual option would be a little over-complicated for me in terms of how much I have to think about and focus on when I'd rather just focus on the racing itself.
