I know what you mean. This has also happened to me for boxing. Initially I didn't care much about the sport but after playing Fight Night I got to gain insight on how much art goes into each fight and all the subtle decisions fighters make with each punch or dodge. So yeah I think these very detailed games definitely do help in showing off the more subdued but still very significant parts of a certain topic.

I think that's how I started getting into car mechanics and stuff and to be honest the Gran Turismo games which were the first simulations I played (if you could call them simulations) taught me a lot about motorsports and car upgrades in general.

I don't think I would know as much as I know now had it not been for games like the GT series.

I like NASCAR. I don't know where the hell to find copies and probably wouldn't buy it new but it's an alright game. Really one of my favorite parts is causing crashes. But I could go for a serious, 200 lap race right now. No other games I own have such a level of endurance racing.

Gran Turismo had quite a lot of endurance races but with 6 they cut their length severely. Forza 5 cut them out completely and while they returned for the 6th game, they are only available to the higher car classes which kinda sucks.

I really enjoy endurance racing and especially where you have to make decisions on the changeable weather and have to pit for tyres of and fuel. Project CARS has some pretty amazing endurance racing I will add.

I've never paid attention to nascar games aside from Daytona in the arcades and if it has fantastic crashes then count me in.

Nascar '09 I think it was had some pretty fun crashes and instances, but if you want the best Nascar experience then the GO TO one is Nascar '03. It's very dated but the AI and the physics are pretty well made and the crashes are pretty fluid too, which is probably why it's still alive today.

I'm assuming NASCAR 03 is really old, so I'll have to emulate it. Right?

Not gonna lie when I say that I find traditional racing competition games like NASCAR boring. Honestly, it is more so the fact that they game is presented boringly. Like they just go "well this is a racing game so go ahead and win races and upgrade". I get bored of these titles pretty fast and tend to not play them that often if ever.

It was released on PC so you'll be able to install it no probs.

It also has a pretty big mod scene behind it which has modern cars with modern liveries, to 90's style cars with 90's liveries.

I agree. Some companies forget or don't know how to make games exciting. Daytona did it best in my opinion. Just adding the subtle details that they made really elevated their game a lot.

I remember playing it at an arcade one year and on the begginner track, that oval, they had that carving of Sonic carved into the mountainside. I was a huge Sonic fan around that time so naturally that made me like the game even more.

I played this game a lot and I never even noticed that. I'll have to look it up now, maybe I was just too focused on winning against my friends then. The first stage was really very nice it had just the right amount of difficulty for me.

I think it's on the last banked left-hander turn.

I agree with the difficulty. I tried the really difficult track one time and just failed completely at it! :D

I don't dislike them but I would say that I enjoy them actually. The fictional locations of racing games are interesting but if you would add any real competition in the game, it makes me feel very alive.
