Has anyone here played this on OS X? A friend of mine does not run Windows so I have no clue what to tell her when it comes to this. Is it any different?
I have a Mac but I haven't loaded any games onto it yet. I can tell you that other apps/programs, like the Microsoft Office suite, are a little different from Windows to Mac and back again. The game would probably be fairly similar but controls will most likely be a bit different as the keyboard on the Mac is different from the one on a Windows PC.
The gaming experience itself is not different since you'd still have the standard controls such as mouse and keyboard, rather the installation process and limitations might be where you find most of the difference, since majority of PC games are still only available exclusively for Windows platforms so you'd best be ready to miss out on a lot if you opt to go for a Mac for gaming.
I haven't played is but I'm willing to give it a try. Mac games are much more limited then PC games. Hopefully that can change soon.
OS X has never been particularly well supported, but virtual emulation of Windows is very good and optimised now, and I always consider it if there is a good PC and console only game.
I'd suggest googling for that one program that lets you run Windows software on OS X. I think it's called Wine, but I'm not sure. I remember making Sonic Adventure DX, the Windows port, run on a friend's Macbook with that program, but times change and maybe a better one came out.
True. I had a Mac laptop and did nothing on it except browse online so I tried looking for some games to install but the choices were so limited, not only for modern games but even for emulators.
Windows is so much better than OSX in terms of gaming. The latter is really limited, as the others have said. I recommend you tell your friend to try an emulator on his Apple device.
OS X has improved with regards to gaming in the past couple years. It's not quite there yet, but that doesn't mean it can't get there within the next few years, at least as far as major releases are concerned. I wouldn't consider an F1 release a major release.
Keep in mind this game is designed to run on Direct X so OpenGL may not perform perfectly. It might be worth dualbooting both Windows and OSX on your computer.
