Electronic Arts’ reboot of the Need For Speed franchise has a lot riding on it….enough, perhaps, to necessitate a delay. There’s no need to panic, however — unless you play exclusively on the PC, because developer Ghost Games has delayed the PC version of the game until the spring of 2016, citing an inferior framerate as something that needs to be worked on. At Ghost, we’re united by one common passion… to deliver the best Need for Speed™ experience possible. And at every step of the development process we’re guided by our community. Whether that’s reading your comments on Facebook or Twitter, watching your videos on YouTube, or joining in with the discussion on Reddit, the conversation we’ve been having as fans of Need for Speed is enormously important and we’re working to reflect it in the game we’re building. Part of the conversation includes hearing from our PC community that an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree. To deliver this, we’ve made the decision to move the PC release date to Spring 2016. Our PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release dates will remain the same, starting November 3, 2015 in North America and November 5 worldwide. It’ll take a while for the PC version to appear, but once it does, Ghost Games guarantees it’ll be instantly caught up: any content updates released for the game between its console launch and its PC debut will be included in the PC version. On all other machines, Need For Speed is still on track to launch November 3. The post No Need For Speed On The PC Until Spring appeared first on Racing Game Central. Continue reading...
Well I suppose it's better then them releasing something that's quite buggy that will surely get a lot of negative feedback. Wise move.
Is every game that comes out only a port to PC? I'm really mad at this. GTA V, The Division and now this? I don't understand why it's so hard to launch the game on the most popular platform, optimizing should be relatively easy.
As measured by software sales, excluding DLC, video game consoles still trounce the PC, so the money's in the consoles until the end of 2016, when most analysts see PC game sales finally eclipsing consoles for the first time in a long time. It's not surprising that so many PC games are ports.
I don't think that's accurate, but I'm not jumping to conclusions until I see proper proof of what you said. I find it hard to believe that Steam, Origin etc. aren't able to outsell consoles when it comes to games and DLCs.
Oh, look. Evidence. http://www.cnet.com/news/playing-games-on-the-pc-is-making-a-comeback/ http://hexus.net/gaming/news/industry/83972-pc-games-sales-eclipse-value-console-games-sales-2016/
Very surprising. Kinda makes me worry though that console gaming might be making a decline. A slow one, but a decline none-the-less.
I know PC gamers would be disappointed but I think it's alright and certainly more favorable than having a buggy or unfinished product. I would be okay if they delayed console versions if it meant I'd be having a much smoother experience.
Delays suck, but I'll take a delay over a broken, buggy mess of a PC game any day. However, big time publishers/developers like EA have the resources for multi-platform releases so there's no real excuse for not having the PC version ready at the same time as the others.
One of the reasons given for the delay is cutting down piracy. While yes, that's not the sole reason the game's release has been delayed some analysts believe it's one of the reasons. It doesn't surprise me though.
So they're basically bumping up the security to prevent people from pirating it? If that was the sole reason then it would seem a little silly because people will always pirate stuff and that's not really gonna stop any time soon. Why make other people who want it legit suffer?
Something like it. But of course there are also the legitimate reasons for delaying the release -the inferior frame rate - which was cited. Considering the fact that they always have people testing the games, I think they already knew about this but thought it could be a good excuse for delaying release of the PC version.
I'm not sure but I read from a few comments online that this is why GTA was so delayed as well because once you put it up for PC there are bound to be pirated copies almost immediately.
The security thing sounds like the likely reason for a delay while the frame-rate could just be a minor issue but being used as a scapegoat.
I don't mind a delayed release! I'd rather have a delayed release than have it pushed out with tons of bugs. Remember when cars were going missing in GTA V? That patch was a nightmare!
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. I think many companies do this and they just don't mention the part about piracy because it will just give the rest of their customers bad ideas.
Yeah I think that's right, it will give people bad ideas if they mention it and I can see some people calling the company selfish for wanting to protect their game. Kinda funny really.
