Level Design of Hitman Testament To Modern Consoles

    In a live demo at Gamecom, a playable version of a level in Paris was shown. And as many noted, there are a lot of areas Agent 47 can access. As IO Interactive notes, this is truly because of the advances in gaming technology. For this would not have been possible before.

    “The density and the size we have; we’ve never had that before,” says Hannes Seifert. “That’s also something we could not have done before the current generation of hardware.”

    He also notes that due to the size that the levels now have, the interactions between the player, the targets, and the NPC’s now have to be on point as well.

    “One of the things in any Hitman game is that the level design we have makes us unique but it makes it very challenging,” says Seifert. “All of is procedural and systemic. You make an action and you trigger a reaction. You could potentially snipe a model on the catwalk, and the fashion show has to react to that. The audience has to react to that. And this is something that is happening in the game.”

    Indeed. Sounds like Hitman will be something to behold, don’t you think?

    I am a big fan of the Hitman series and and played Hitman: Absolution religiously until I mastered the ever level with the exception of the last level which was I could never figure out how to do without killing any of the hotel staff or guards. It was almost possible but if you go to youtube you can watch the professionals do it.

    I know that want everyone to upgrade and get the PS4, but I was really disappointed to hear that the lastest offerings was not coming to the PS3 , which I still play. I hope the reconsider it, but highly doubtful.

    I get a little annoyed when developers state the obvious. OF COURSE more powerful hardware and technology would lead to more massive and intricate levels.

    Yup, powerful hardware leads to innovation and I think this is what we'll probably see with Hitman Testament. I was a fan of the franchise and I used to play the games a decade ago, so maybe this is a step forward in the right direction.

    I really love the genre that the Hitman series is a part of, you know... stealth action games, and Hitman really is the best of the bunch, so, naturally I'm really exited about a new version coming up soon. Every new version brings something new, so I'm also looking forward to see what innovations have been added this time.

    I'm looking forward and can't wait to see what they come up with. After every generation I'm always thinking they can't possibly top it but somehow they are able to add details that I never imagined before. I'm sure the next generation of games will be very impressive.

    Yeah, I agree with troutski, here, they are stating the obvious. Better hardware enables game developers to create larger and more complex worlds. Of course not all games will utilize this new generation of consoles to the max, but, it seems that Hitman Testament isn't one of those games. Which is a good thing, of course :D.
