Nascar '14 falls into the same trap as other NASCAR games, and that's that the game doesn't capture the true spirit of the sport. It's nothing close to the adrenaline rush of the real thing, or even watching the real thing.

It really is very disappointing when a game turns out that way. I think most of the time it's because they are trying to appeal to a broader audience so the core ones who are more knowledgable fans find the missing subtle details.

Yep, but I am not sure what we were all expecting. I gave this game a shot, though, hoping that it would be different from the others, but no, it's the same game as the others were, but with a minor graphics adjustment.

That's because we live in a era where everyone wants their product to be main stream for big money.

NASCAR on it's own doesn't have the biggest following in the world in terms of video games. So they had to make it more "accessible". That's why it doesn't have the NASCAR feel you're talking about.

Of course, that takes away from the authenticity, but that's another story.

This is the way that I feel about most of the Nascar games that I play. They are never anything close to the sport that I watch on the tv and I never could understand why. Maybe Nascar is to be watched instead of played as a video game.

I guess this might we why this happens with the NASCAR games. Developers are bending over to try to make it appeal to the masses while sacrificing the feel of it, because it's true NASCAR doesn't have the biggest following in the world.

Though really, who would buy a NASCAR game other than a NASCAR fan? I think anyone that doesn't like NASCAR would just buy another racing game no matter what.

If they just make a good game, it shouldn't be a problem. I find it hard to make a nascar game..well not a nascar game its pretty straight forward in the most part, if old NES games can get it right, how hard can it be for them to get it right?

This is how I really feel like about this game. I can't grasp why the developers are not adding some basic features to the game.
It really doesn't feel like how a true NASCAR game should be like.

NASCAR games are a pretty niche genre, I think it is largely the diehard fans who buy and play the game. Hence developers can get away with making a poor game.

I can see why someone would say that. I would also not really put much stock into my opinion either though, because I am not really the biggest NASCAR fan out there, so take it for what it is worth. That said, there was something missing from the game and I think it is along the same lines.

It's a video game trying to replicate realism though, and that's kind of the problem with these games. You can only do so much with the graphics, unless it's an Oculus Rift kind of game where you alter reality with the games own feel, so you can actually immerse yourself with the game, it will always feel flat and unrealistic, as it will be always moved by a controller and not a steering wheel.

Well we have a UK company trying to produce a NASCAR game. In 2011, they went to their first NASCAR race. Why would NASCAR put their gaming franchise in the hands of people who don't even know the history of the sport is beyond me. I remember how everyone disliked EA Sports and thought they were ruining the franchise. Looking back at it now, I bet everyone thinks differently. NASCAR Thunder 2004 will always be my favorite game on the consoles. It wasn't the most realistic experience, but the career mode made it just so much fun. I miss those days.

My biggest problem with the latest games is the driving. It isn't smooth at all. They tried to make it seem loose like the "real thing" but they missed it dramatically. And the AI is ... well I'm just going to stop there.

Maybe they just rushed it too much or lacked the budget. Sometimes there are restrictions behind the scenes that we never get to hear about until way later on, but either way I could understand the disappointment.

Well.. I know there could've been budget limitations or they simply don't want to add all the features at once, but I expected more from a game like Nascar.

Yeah. I'm guessing it might also be due to the fact that nascar is still fairly niche and because there is not mass appeal they don't feel confident pouring much of their resource into it.

Well.. I know people that play Nascar and it's not the most obscure game out there, it has a big following so it's kind of stupid to not pour money into it because it's niche..

True. There surely is money to be made since there is a big audience built in though what I mostly was saying was that it doesn't have as much mass appeal than most other racing games I guess. It's like how hockey is also popular yet still relatively niche specially when compared to a sport like football or boxing.
