What do you think the market would be for a Need for Speed or Midnight Club re-boot with real world driving physics like Project Cars or Dirt Rally? I for one would be the first in line. I love the simplicity of arcade type games but with the graphics the way they are now, if you are adding real world physics, weight shifting, etc... It might make for the greatest street racing game ever made.
I suppose people who love arcade racers would not want to play more NFS games if they decided to make new NFS games sim racing games. I did notice in one game they had a sim racing mode. Don't know if it perfectly emulated real life physics but at least they had that option. To avoid alienating their fans I suppose if they want a sim version of the game they'll have it as they did in the past as a game mode players can choose if they so desire.
I think that Need for Speed fans would be annoyed with a change like this. People like the NFS games particularly because they aren't trying to be simulations games, there's plenty of games that try to do that, and NFS has historically tried to do other things. I think that a developer would be better off making a new franchise, rather than changing NFS.
Something like you suggested does have its niche but I would honestly say its a small niche. While we want realism we don't want it to the point of difficulty. Having to factor in several aspects just to be good will be great for some and horrible for others.
I prefer arcade racers so I'm not particularly interested in realism but if they can integrate it and make it work well enough I'm sure I will still like it. I just hope they don't end up sacrificing what I find fun just to make it realistic otherwise they probably should just make another title to do this.
Yeah. That would be the best way to go about it. It's not like marketing a new title would be too hard for them. All they'd do is inform NFS fans that they are releasing a new sim racing game and those who are interested will probably buy the game.
I think there does seem to be need of improvement real physics. I guess many of the cars and the roads don't have that. Like having the controls so scattered it's kind of harder to even make use of them. I am not sure how that may work out though.
Need for Speed Shift 2 is basically a sim and it's pretty awesome. It's more of a spin-off though rather than a main series entry and I don't think it sold that well, unfortunately. The developer went on to make Project CARS 1 & 2.
I am also interested in arcade racing rather the simulator style. I have been playing the arcade games since my childhood. I feel like a headache while playing simulating game. I would love to play arcade racing games.
