Yeah I think they could make it work and even probably provide some surprise elements that we would never have thought of. As long as it has the GTA feel then even if the mechanics are changed then it should still be lots of fun.

Well, they don't have to be by-the-book cops. There's a lot of corrupt cops in the GTA verse, so why couldn't our hypothetical protagonist be crooked? They could do a few morally questionable things for "justice". They could even do crime and mask it with their authority. It could really be interesting.

Good point. Now that you mention it I think that would be a great twist they can pull for the next GTA. It could provide a whole different perspective while still offering the same themes of being shady and what not.

I think they definitely should, this is probably one of the best ideas I've heard so far and the storyline can be developed in more interesting ways. The missions would be so cool as well.

Pretty sure they've already done that in previous games, with the vigilante missions. It's basically the same premise as you described, you hop in to a military vehicle, listen to the police radio, get the information and track down the fugitives and bring them to justice. It's a pretty old mini game in GTA, and it's one of my favorites as well. Dealing justice with your iron fist is a very awesome, especially when you really play the part of a rogue cop.

I'd absolutely love a cop version. But it has to be a dirty cop version, with a great story and loads of bad decisions. I never thought of this. So simple, yet genius idea. As far as I can remember, there haven't been cop characters in any GTA game, am I right?

WOW, I've never though about that, but it's definitely a game that I would pay and play! I'm sure Rockstar will do it in the future if they can hear you out LOL

LA Noire and even Red Dead Redemption kind of hit this already, but a modern day cops one would be cool. You could take a look at Battlefield: Hardline for something like that!

That would be nice if they did that. It will be a change of pace of the game. And I have played L.A. Noire and I loved it.

They had the vigilante mode in previous versions which I always loved and unless I haven't found it yet which I sincerely doubt they don't have this. They have mods out there that are like this but it would be nice to have a built in version of this. You could pull people over, arrest them, take them to the station and book them.

You could also truly change the way online works as well. When you log in you can create a cop character and choose whether or not you want to play as a good guy or a bad guy. Then people in the online community would be able to attack your prison transport, and it would be like a more hardcore version of cops and robbers. Wow this is actually a really good idea the more I think about it.
