I don't think a game other than Mario Kart did that. I do remember split screen Most Wanted on the PS2, I liked to play that with my brothers all the time.
Split screens (even 4-way) are not that bad these days with 60-inch+ screens to play on. I do find them a little distracting, and it is easy to lose track of which one is your car. It's still a sight better than trying to play split-level "Mario Carts" on a 13-inch glass screen like I did as a kid.
I do remember playing four-way split screen on some very older racing games, but I have no idea what game it was. I haven't played like that for a long time now though, I don't think I would enjoy it, my eyes tend to get strained quite easily these days. Just playing with two players is bad enough. I think I'd need a 500" TV lol.
Sparkster, I don't care how big the screen is, it is just too distracting. I try to watch my own screen and stay focused on my car, but I am constantly looking where other players are, trying to figure out their proximity to me. I have never found split-screen appealing. If I had no other choice (with two players at least) I would rather the split be vertical and not horizontal, as that doesn't mess with my eyes as much.
Back 15 years ago was the last time I did 4 split screen racing. I am talking back in the era of N64 so I do not remember it that much, but I know that I much prefer on-line multi player when I get the entire screen to myself.
I've played Mario Kart with 4 player split screen. I can't quite remember on which console. It might've been the Game Cube or Wii. I found it kind of hard to see because of how tiny the screen was since you had to divide it up into 4.
Yeah I had a lot of fun on that game too" as for Mario kart I have played it too but I've never been able to play it with there other players but I bet it would have been fun.
I use to have a projector that we use to play rallicar racing with on the original xbox. The game in itself was fun but as soon as you have 4 people with split screen the screen gets pixelated and the view of the tracks are cut back. It does take away from the fun factor and It wasn't that pleasant hearing everyone complain about the limited views.
No I have not tried that yet, but I've tried the two player split screen. I don't know what it would like to have four player split screen, I might get irritated because I don't like small screen when I'm playing games.
Mario Kart and Street Racer are the two I remember playing like that. And I remember hating it like none other because of everyone looking at each others' screens. Basically screen cheating. Thank god for online gaming in that regard lol.
I used to do this a lot back when we used to play Mario Karts on the N64. This was the time when the N64 to me was one of the greatest consoles on the planet and to this day I still think that it is one of the best consoles that I had the opportunity to play.
I've done it a lot. A lot of racers support it, though most modern racers don't. Games like Blur, Mario Kart, Split/Second (only 2-player though) and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing are great for when you have 3 friends and want to go fast! I don't find the split-screen too distracting, either, because modern TVs are big enough that it's not a problem for me. Though I understand why some people would get distracted, since we are so used to having the full screen all for ourselves.
I remember playing Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing with my childhood friends on a 4-player split screen when I was a kid. I had a lot of fun with this game!
Yep played plenty of them int he SNES/Sega days. Maybe even before then. I think one of my favorite race games back then was micromachines. Had a lot of good times within that game.
Yes! Actually, 4 player Mario Kart is the best racing experience for my friends and I! It's simply a lot of fun, and it feels so fantastic when you win a race and you get bragging rights in front of your friends!
