Why? Well, it must be THAT GOOD. GameStop has announced today that next month on May 22, the 2015 version of NASCAR will be available exclusively at their stores (it will be sold digitally as well, but physical copies are GameStop-only). It’s not making the next-gen leap yet, either: it’s one of the very few titles to be released this year for last-gen consoles only (Playstation 3 and XBox 360). Not only that, the game will be just $20. If you’re skeptical that much work has been done improving this version over NASCAR 14, you’d be right: developer Dusenberry Martin Racing (who has never handled a NASCAR game before) states this title will be more of an “upgrade” than a full game. New content includes 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cut Series paint schemes, a career mode and tweaks to online multiplayer. If you can live without those features, then you can stick with NASCAR 14 for now….though the “new” game IS only twenty bucks. There IS a version of NASCAR being developed for the Playstation 4 and XBox One, but it will not be out until 2016, and therefore will be NASCAR 16. Well, i can't complain about a $20 price tag, so I'm going to give this one a shot, even though I'll have to dust off the old Xbox 360.
$20 bucks won't kill my wallet. So yeah you have a point. Most games are at $50+ so this is a bonus to get a new game at that price. I'll ead up on some reviews and what the video game makers have to say about it.
I'm assuming that the game isn't that good, personally. Any games that are now being developed for last gen consoles are more than likely throwaway games more than AAA titles.
Doesn't really seem worth billing it as a new game & printing it to disc. They could have saved some money and just released it as a NASCAR '15 DLC. Still, gotta save money to make money I suppose...
You do make a good point. I'm not so sure the game is going to sell even remotely close to well at this point.
I'd be skeptical of this normally since even the maker described it more of an upgrade rather than a completely new game but since they put such a low price on it I can respect them a lot more. I think it is a good move on their part and it will surely pay off by gaining them more audience.
This is Nascar 14 with an updated Roster and paint jobs. They could've just sold us a DLC pack for 10$ or gave it to use for free, like they did in the past. Still buying simply because its Jeff Gordon's last year, though.
Exclusive to last-gen consoles? Sounds pretty lazy on their part, they probably just threw in a few little features and charged twenty bucks for what is essentially a very similar game.
I saw the headline and thought this was ridiculous. Kept reading on and thought it was still ridiculous. But then I saw the $20 price tag and it made sense. It's basically an upgrade "DLC" for NASCAR 15 (yes, I know it's not downloadable, but... you know what I mean!).
