Seeing as I've been brought up on consoles rather than PC gaming, I'm also going to have to say that I also prefer the controller over using the keyboard. While ultimately the wheel, chair and pedal combination is better than both those put together, we're not all fortunate enough to have the room, or even be able to afford that kind of set-up for our racing games.
I have been using keyboards for racing games for most of my life, but I really prefer to use a steering wheel game controller as if you combine that with the new virtual realities, it will be realistic game play sensation!
Controllers definitely work best with racing games. The 360 degree rotation of a thumbstick kind of emulates the feel of steering with a wheel. You have more control of your car than you would with a keyboard. I can only foresee a keyboard working well with sharp turns.
Keyboards are kind of annoying compared to controllers. Most of the time, controllers are faster and simpler to use when playing a video game. A keyboard has too many buttons on it. It is mostly good for writing reports and things related. In the end, I would choose a controller to play a video game.
I think that for some types of games keyboards can be ok, but definitely not for racing games in my opinion. Maybe with a controller you actually get to grips something with your hands so it sort of feels like a steering wheel? Maybe that makes it work better because pressing buttons on a keyboard isn't anything like driving a real car.
Good point. Now that you've reminded me I do now think about how difficult it was to drift using a keyboard though my friend became an expert at it due to lack of options lol.
It is probably because you're playin with consoles since you were a little kid, if you would have started playing with PC the story would be quite different, I am pretty sure of it
There is no doubt about that. I'm sure if I was more used to playing on the PC, I would prefer keyboard. It's just a matter of what you are used to playing.
Well I am disagree with you, I have played with both controller and keyboard and it is way easier for me to drive with a keyboard, don not knowabout you but it is way more comfortable for me.
I just feel like I can make smoother and more gradual turns with a controller. If a keyboard works better for you then that's great. I just can't get a feel for it though.
When you sit behind the wheel of a car though ready to drive off, the experience of having a wheel in your hands is more akin to having a controller than what it is to placing your fingers on a keyboard, that's why I'd go for controller every time.
Depends entirely on the games one predominantly plays. For someone like me who alternates between browsing and playing racing games online, using the keyboard is more convenient. That said if you have a controller and don't need to do anything else whilst racing, there's no reason to choose the keyboard.
How do you manage to race and browse at the same time? I'm bit saying that you and others don't, but isn't it a little off putting and won't it ruin your concentration?
A good advantage controllers have over keyboards is that they do not have input limits. "Ghosting" is pretty common for keyboards. I do believe this happened to everyone already, when you're trying to take a turn but your car doesn't seem to respond. Sometimes that's not your fault nor the car nor the game's fault, it's the keyboard's. "Ghosting" happens when you press too much keys. Your keyboard cannot read all of your inputs at once, resulting into some discarded or disregarded inputs. That doesn't happen to controllers.
Controller easily and for a few reasons. I was bought up on console games so when I switched over to PC it just felt way more natural as I only used keyboard and mouse for typing and scanning the internet. I love the way it feels in my hand and the buttons are very easy to memorize and reach. With a keyboard they are all spread out and you have to be looking down constantly (at least for me). The mouse is another issue as well, as it seems like you have to move it a great distance sometimes to turn around, and with an analog its right there for the taking.
I would go with the controllers. Well, the controllers are specially made for playing the computer games and they are designed for the games like us. They are much more comfortable than the keyboards.
Nope it doesn't ruin my concentration. I could read an article on a site for a couple of minutes, click on the other tab and play a racing game I've never played and as most of these flash games aren't that good, get back to browsing when I'm bored.
Call me weird but I feel more comfortable with a keyboard, unless I am in some arcade which would be my ideal set up to actually feel I am sitting in a car.. Even using arrow keys feel more comfortable to me than using a controller or joystick I am not sure why that is
