Are there certain racing games that you hear that immediately turn you off?

Although it is not the only genre I play, I do enjoy racing games sometimes. But I have had bad (or just boring) experiences with a few. I doubt I will ever give them another chance. Two of these "snorers" that come to mind are "Gran Turismo" and "Need for Speed". Perhaps I am unfairly judging them from games of the past, but I just have no interest in playing some of these new games.

Need for Speed also turns me off. I have never been a fan of the series and I probably never will. I remember Need for Speed to be a racing game with cops. That formula doesn't really work for me. I also didn't like the tracks back in the PS1 days. That's why I didn't really check out other NFS games that came out for other consoles.

Need For Speed is my favorite racing game. I could list numerous reasons why I like it but that would be going off-topic.

The racing game I played for a little while because I had not other options at that time but don't intend to ever play again is MotoGP. The handling [of the bikes] is too hard for me and I hate to lose so I'd rather not play the game at all.

There aren't a lot of racing games that I don't like, but one of them would probably be Formula 1 racing. I just don't so much fun playing this game, I rather play something like Grid, Forza, NFS and games of this sort.

I generally cannot enjoy any racing format that repeats laps. There are exceptions. Flatout doesn't use standard racetrack look or the same cityscape for each level. Part of the time you might experience these places, but you moved into new regions, such as out into the country from a city starting point. I think that some reacing game developers think that environments (and especially backgrounds) are not that important. To me, a game has to be aesthetically appeasing as well as have good control.

Ridge Racer was my turn off. I liked the game initially, then it came to the sunset stage on RR5. I HATED that light. Couldn't see where I was turning and I ALWAYS crashed into the wall at that turn! Nothing like having the game mechanics just screw you over when you're in a middle of a race. Never did I play another Ridge Racer game either!

All Nintendo games that aren't mario kart, but are racing, just feel wrong to me. As a huge fan of the mario kart series, I hate it to play a game that isn't Mario Kart. Playing racing games on a Playstation for example isn't a problem for me then. I suppose it's just that too many hours of mario kart forced me into believing mario kart is the only true nintendo racing game.

I'm turned off by traditional racers to be honest. I have nothing against people making and enjoying these games but it just never appealed to me. Personally I think if the main goal is just to reach first place and it has no other mechanics like power ups or no other challenges like smashing enemies I just get bored.

Any game in the F1 series. I find it to be pretty boring, yet they churn out a new title every year. Sounds like nothing more than a cash-grab to me.

Indeed, every year again a game, that's just about the same as the year before. I'd consider becoming a F1 game developer, since the only skill you'd have to master would be copy - pasting .

For me the Wip+eout games have that effect, I'm just not interested in that super futuristic and super fast racing, I enjoy more realistic racers, or even Kart games :)

So you've just admitted to being stuck in the past, and chances are high that you've missed out on some great racing (and other genres) games over the years. Give them a try. You'll be surprised at how good some of those franchises you claim to dislike can be.

I am not admitting to being stuck in the past completely. I also did not say I didn't play any modern racing games. I like GTA V, Flatout, Mario Karts, and others. It's just those two franchises that seem to be the same knockoff every time they repackage the game.

I don't think I've ever played a Ridge Racer game, they always just felt like a cheaper alternative to the major racing series, does anyone else feel this?
And does anyone actually recommend trying it out?

None come to mind but then I realize Gran Turismo is really starting to disinterest me. It's like the series is becoming stale for me. They improve tech, gameplay and graphics every entry. But they don't improve any of the other things. There's more to games than that.

I think the need for speed games are a little overhyped. It is for like wannabe drag racers that just watched fast & furious.

Yeah, I don't like the Need for Speed games. In today's selection of racing games, the Need for Speed installments are sort of tacky and out of touch, if that makes sense.
