Driveclub to Feature Advanced Weather Effects, But Not At Launch

  1. It won’t all be sunny days and clear skies in Driveclub, but you’ll have to wait a while after the Oct. 7 launch to see what the game’s weather can really do.

According to Polygon, at E3 Evolution Studios demoed an early version of the weather system planned for Driveclub. The weather system is extremely detailed, with rain that puddles and dries realistically, mist that rises, and that rain-slick look.

It’s also something that can have a big impact on gameplay, especially with the snow that is planned for tracks in colder regions. Snow is slippery, and that will be represented in the game.

Game Director Paul Rustchynsky said variable weather is just another way Driveclub more customizable and add variety to the tracks and challenges.

“We want people to be playing these tracks over and over again,” he said. “So as much believability as you can hone into these tracks, the better. We want people to be playing this for years, be posting, be sending challenges and letting everything go viral a much as possible.”

The weather system will launch as a free update “shortly after” launch, according to Evolution.

Hmm. It's definitely going to add some value to replayability. I am keeping an eye on this game since the very announcement. It will be very interesting to see how things turn out.

I honestly hate snow stages, but that's mostly just due to my lack of skill. :D I've gotten to play some games that have weather elements too like being slippery when it's a snowy area, and I don't really know how much you could add to that, but I'll be looking forward to seeing what they will do with it.

I am not a big fan of those fancy weather effects. All that matters to me is the handling in racing games. But one can't deny the fact that it makes for an amazing looking game.
