It seems as though the Wii U is disappearing bit by bit out of the picture as the PS4 and the Xbox One continue to soar. Most people thing that the Wii U needs big game after big game in order to get back into contention with Sony and Microsoft. Mario Kart 8 would probably be a big game. Will it help increase the sales of the Wii U once it is released?

I do not think so especially that there is PS4 in the picture with its all crazy hardware upgrades. It will be hard for it to catch up

I'm pretty sure it will increase the sales of the Wii U once it is released, but not sure how long it will last before sales start to decrease once again. I have noticed that aside from Mario Kart 8 there really hasn't been any other game that has really pushed Wii U in front of the rest of the game systems and unfortunately even though Mario Kart 8 will help a little it probably won't last unless they make better games for this system.

No unfortunately I don't think that it will give a noticeable boost to the sales. The thing that pushed the Wii was games like Wii Sports and Wii Fit that the whole family could play, and then people would get into games like Mario Kart afterwards. I think the Wii U is missing the selling point to get it into every home again, so a kart racer, no matter how good, will not change this.

Not really. Perhaps momentarily, when Mario Kart 8 is released. But Wii is clearly not a contender when it comes to Microsoft and Sony. I agree with nickjt, I don't think the Wii appeals as widely to its audience as its competitor. It has a lot of catching up to do.

Mario Kart 8 will most surely increase sales of the Wii U. Not only is it a major IP from Nintendo, it is also a fan favorite for almost anyone who owned a GameCube.

Yeah Nintendo has basically been shoved off of the map when it comes to video games with the Xbox one and the PS4 coming out. I really think though that Mario Kart will help the sales a bit but I don't think that it would do anything to increase it dramatically.

I think it could increase Wii U sales to some degree, but I don't think it would be that much. I highly doubt one game could save a console especially since there's already a lot of previous versions of said game and they only probably managed to add a few add ons with this new one anyway.

With the release of Mario Kart 8, I can definitely see people picking up the Wii U just to play the game. I don't think it is going to be anything substantial, but any sale would help Nintendo at this point.

Yes, I can definitely see the increase in sales of the hardware, but I wonder how long they will be able to sustain that increase?

Oh yeah it did and will continue to do so. Nintendo consoles sell because of the absolutely incredible exclusives.

Not really most people prefer Xbox and PS4 however I do think that they will experience a boost in sale around the holidays a more die hard Mario fan will purchase Wii to experience Mario Kart 8. Wii needed some big ticket action pack fighting games as this is what keeps the sales of Xbox and PS4 ever so high.

I think that Mario Kart 8 will definitely increase the sales of the Wii U. Mario Kart 8 is such a well known series, people will want to get the game, and will probably end up buying a Wii U because of that game. People might not buy the system just for Mario Kart, but some people who are on the fence about buying the Wii U might be pushed towards purchasing a unit.

Some of the reports say that it has already increased the sale of the Wii U, so there you go. It proves that Nintendo fans are hungry for more Mario Kart.

I'm sure it probably will. Many people grew up with Mario and love the Mario series and are Nintendo fans. Plus, here's been some hype about Mario Kart 8 and the Luigi meme probably brought even more attention. I'm sure people will be buying a WiiU just for Mario Kart 8.

It could possibly increase sales. I think that Mario Kart is what really gave Nintendo its name. Everyone knows Nintendo because of Mario!

Nintendo had been making mostly casual games, and this didn't give it a significant boost in popularity. And current titles that are available for the console, compared to the ones available for the the Xbox one or PS4, isn't gonna help with it either. But things may change, since the developer has announced that they are switching to developing games for the hardcore gamer, rather than the casual. And we can also expect an increase in sales with the exclusive hack and slash game Bayoneta 2, and yes, even Project CARS.

True. Just as Sonic is SEGA's mascot, Mario is Nintendo's. Without Mario, I don't think Nintendo would be as popular as it is. Still, I think that everyone should be patient. There must be an upcoming game for the WiiU that will grab everyone's attention and get those consoles selling.

Definately. Nintendo exclusives are what is keeping the console alive and well. Games like Smash Bros, Pokemon and Mario Kart are definitely what they need to stay alive in the console wars.

Yeah, it's those exclusive games that appeal to people's nostalgia and keep those Nintendo consoles selling. Of course, they also get good games on there as well. Still, in the meantime, I think people will be pulled in by the Mario games and other exclusives like Bayonetta 2.
