So, we are about to witness the PS 4 in November and it looks as though there's no slowing down for Sony's console. But do you think that the PlayStation could maintain its momentum in the long run? Until what number do you think would the PlayStation reach before calling it quits?

I hope they keep making them for s long as possible. I always look forward to their innovations, but I have to admit that I feel they are kind of plateauing in terms of graphics right now, but hopefully that would mean they will focus on experimenting with mechanics and gameplay a bit more.

I think that they won't quit very soon, because they make a lot of sales with their consoles and a very popular. I don't see why they should stop making them soon. I hope that they will make consoles as long as I like playing games on them. I think that the number of Playstation will reach about 15. I said this number just so out of my head so it isn't really based on anything.

They are not going to quit doing console business in near future for sure. So I think it's going to go on like this for as long as it can.

@jbeavis I think by the time we get to 9 the graphics and movement would probably be exactly like real life, and I hope I live long enough to see it.

Sony is well funded and rich enough to keep playstation running for at least another 20 to 30 years. Its been around 20 years since they have started the playstation series, why can they just stop now?

What number? I hope I don't see a Playstation 5, I mean, what kind of name is that? But, Sony is not going to stop. Playstation is their main source of income and it's what made Sony probably the most recognized gaming leader in the industry. They will not stop making the line up of Playstation and probably are making a bunch of portable handheld consoles made up of the PS prefix. I mean, you can't blame them. Sony is going to continue to evolve the Playstation brand and I hope they do. PS1 was a revolution, PS2 was one of the best selling consoles, PS3 spawned the arguably the best exclusives in a platform and the PS4 has the best graphics we've ever seen on a console ever. Sony is not dumb, they will create Playstations until other circumstances tell them otherwise.

Very true. I think the company itself is even in trouble but their console department seems to be doing just fine so I'm guessing it would be the last one to be let go.

Ehhhh, I don't think that's really possible. We could have that now it's just that, the new consoles are pretty weak compared to pc's from like 2 years ago...

You're right, they are able to do it for movies so I guess it should be possible in games already, but maybe someday it will be a lot more standard and effortless such as how we might view current graphics if we had to see it just a decade ago.

My money's on PS5 as the last one. Eventually it's all gonna be digital and the technology will outpace what the devs can do, IMO.
Just look at the evidence, back in the day, the difference in tech specs from one generation to another were HUGE. Atari 2600 to NES, NES to SNES, SNES to Playstation, PSX to PS2... each one a huge leap in graphics and game size. PS2 to PS3, slightly less impressive, PS3 to PS4, almost indistinguishible, at least for now.

Now that you mention it, I think they are investing a good amount on streaming technology so that hopefully they could get games to be played on any tablet or PC. I'm not sure how they would transition though and how they would set themselves apart from all other similar sources.
