Seems like all the good games get sequels now, but I bet there are still some good ones out there that deserve to become a franchise but for one reason or another, don't. Do you guys have any games that were never followed up on, leaving only one version of it lying around?
Dragon's Dogma. That games is great, but it has noticeable flaws caused by it being too big and ambitious for the first game in a franchise. I think Dragon's Dogma 2 would be one of the best games ever, if Capcom did it right. Of course, Capcom rarely does much right lately. But seriously, think about it. It could be like Assassin's Creed. Remember how barebones Assassin's Creed 1 was, despite being very unique? Then they released Assassin's Creed 2 which turned out amazing because it fixed most of the flaws of the first game, which was much easier to do now that they had the first game as a base. This is why I think sequels are important for videogames, because the first game can serve as base for the sequel to improve on.
It would have been cool if Sony made a sequel for The Legend of Dragoon back in the early 2000s, but it will probably never happen now. Also, Red Dead Redemption - although I'm pretty sure Rockstar will return to that world eventually.
Man, I agree. I keep thinking they should bring it back for either the PS3 (maybe too late for that now), the Vita or the PS4.
Ah sequels, you either love em or hate em. I have no problem with sequels as long as they are good. There are some games that I think should have never gotten sequels and there are some which I feel deserve a sequel. Here's my list: The Last of Us Catherine Shadow of the Colossus Okami Vagrant Story Racing Lagoon
Great news for you! The developer seems to want to get a sequel made for the PS4. I've admittedly never played this game, but from the looks of the comments I've been reading about it, I'm probably going to be checking it out in the future. Dragon’s Dogma Director Wants to Make a Sequel on PS4, Also Rival Schools 3 and Devil May Cry 5
I really want another game of Crash Bandicoot. This game was in the age where you had wacky fun games. No one cared about realism and we just wanted something awesome to play. It would be nice if they can reprise the series once more.
Rumors are flying around that there is one in the making but who knows. I am surprised they never gave Shadow of the Colossus and Okami any sequels. They may not have been blockbusters but the games were brilliant and sold decently enough.
I'm not sure whether I should say that developers not making follow up titles to their "classics" is either bad or good. Sure, it would be nice to see a Psychonauts sequel or another Crash, but the other end of the scale is those games turning into the next Call of Duty, with yearly sequels and day one DLC catering to the people who buy it simply because it's "new". One or two sequels to some abandoned games would be nice, but past that you're risking becoming a franchise and not stopping while you had the chance.
The recent Tomb Raider and DmC games I thought were fantastic. I'm pretty sure they'll get sequels based on how they sold, so here's hoping they're going to be great. I'm probably in the minority on this one, but the Prince of Persia standalone game was one of my favorite games. I wish they'd make a sequel to this one so bad.
I haven't played the latest dmc but I loved the first one to bits. I hope to get to play it soon and I'm sure it will be good since I mostly just like the mechanics anyway and I'm sure they at least got that right. Hopefully they did sell enough of it to validate a sequel, as I'll probably be playing it one after the another when the time comes.
Honestly, Battletoads. The last game they have released was in 1994 and that was Super Battletoads. It's an insanely difficult game but fun to play!
There are a lot of games that deserve a sequel. I think EA should definitely think about Dead Space 4.
The Last of Us really needs a sequel, even after that immensely terrible cliffhanger. Ugh, it broke my heart. I like Resistance 3 and would really like to see a 4, but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon. The game had good mechanics, an interesting storyline and a cool world, but I guess the series is dead. *sigh* There's a lot of games that deserves sequels like Far Cry 3. But luckily, Far Cry 4 has been announced and I really can't wait what Ubisoft could made out of it's established universe. I would like to see a sequel to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and they can create like a spinoff series. The DLC was fantastic, it was fun, hilarious and filled with pop culture references. Hopefully Ubisoft is smart and realizes they have a gem on their hands.
Alan Wake is the top one that comes to mind, mainly because it was released so long ago now. I'm surprised they didn't make a sequel after it's success. It's such a great game. I know remedy is focusing on Quantum Break now, but hopefully they go back to Alan Wake's story when they're finished with that.
@jbeavis100 I never got into that game but I've played it a couple of times and I agree that it is definitely good enough to warrant a sequel or reboot. I think they are the ones who made a Mario type game viable in a 3d environment.
Well, since this is a racing game forum, may I suggest Ridge Racer 8 for PS4? That's a series that isn't getting the respect it deserves from its creators. A free to play mobile game is no way to celebrate your 20th anniversary, am I right? After all, Ridge Racer is known for being released at the launch of a new system to show off its capabilities, and unfortunately, that didn't happen this generation.
I've never played this game but I guess now is the time to give it a try. Back then I was too engrossed in my own favorites but now I'm kind of at a downtime since the sequels to those titles kind of sucked lol.
