Hey, who doubted this one would be a hit? It’s Mario Kart.

At yesterday’s 74th Annual Nintendo Shareholder’s meeting, Nintendo announced Mario Kart 8 has sold 2 million copies worldwide in its first month of release. That is a lot of people getting mad about blue shells.

The public’s continued appetite for Karting is a big boon for the struggling Wii U, helping to quadruple system sales the week after release.

And it didn’t hurt Nintendo President Satoru Iwata any, either, as he was re-elected at the meeting despite Nintendo’s recent financial troubles.

Great sales so far by Mario kart 8. I have not played the game yet but I hope to do so soon. It is good to see that a game such a mario kart is still relevant and popular today. I remember playing mario kart on the Nintendo 64 back in the day.

I'm not surprised at all, Mario Kart always sells really good and this one looked promising in terms of sales too.

Nintendo has always been really amazing with their first party games. It's third party games where they flounder.

Mario games always sell well just because of the Mario brand name. Nintendo knows a cash cow when they see it. But i have loved every one so I am not complaining.

Mario Kart is a game that has been with us all throughout our childhood and the trend will continue :)
Nintendo do a fantastic job at creating the cartoon racer and that is what keeps generation after generation returning.

Nintendo manages to pump out fantastic games all the time, they have even managed to not make the Mario Kart series go stale! Nintendo is most of the time left in the shadows, but when it does something right, Nintendo does something right and goes all the way.

If it is any game that I think that would be able to save this console it has to be a good Mario game. I just think that Mario is the face of the Nintendo franchise and if they ever think that they could do it without him then they would be making a really big mistake.

This is really great news though and I am really glad for Nintendo seeing how much they have been struggling as of late.

Did anyone actually think this wouldn't sell? These sort of games you can always rely to be amazing and sell. Nintendo knows what it needs to do if they want to sell more consoles and they are on the right track! I played Mario Kart 8 at a friends house and it was such a blast, good game to play with friends and family.

This is the thing really. With the possible exception of Pokemon, can any game to have been 'that' game for so many children, even across a generation or two?

When I think about it I cannot see how Mario Kart would not have been selling well. I think that all the Mario games are the cornerstone of Nintendo and they need to play on that if they want to help the WII U thrive.

It's one of their most popular titles, so I'm not surprised at all, but I do hope it loves up to the fans' expectations. I myself am not fond of kart games but I've gotten to play this on Wii and DS a couple of times and I did enjoy it.

Mario games have always sold a lot of copies since the beginning of video game time.

Even before video games, when it was only card games and stuff, Mario sold incredibly well.
