When you are making racing games, it is hard to not get too repetitive. The game play can not be changed that much, but in the case of GT I think they change it up enough. The graphics are the thing I usually look for most in a racing game, and they change that up, so that is why GT has my love.
GT is set up that only so much can be done. I think the games was based on a race that used to happen actually, and as for tracks there are only so many things they can do with a Turismo track. And the cars...well those are based on the manufactures and a lot of models are only upgraded every 3 years and even then there are not many drastic changes to the actual look of the model for 2 upgrades at a time. A lot of the changes we would expect to see can not be done because of the way the game is set up. things i love about the game is how realistic driving the cars really is, those are the important qualities for me.
I guess it feels more repetitive than in the past due to the quality of other racing franchises right now.
I think any long running series, especially a racing series, is bound to get repetitive. There's really not that much room to make a racing game completely fresh. You could add new tracks and better customization, but at the end of the day you're gonna be racing around a track.
Yeah, I suppose doing the same sort of races with every game in the series can be a little repetitive but if you know the series than you know what to expect from it. I personally don't find it that repetitive if I'm honest because in each series may have the same sort of races but they are held on different tracks, with different opponents and you have a choice of a new bunch of cars to use, so it's more of a feeling of deja vu more than anything. What I didn't find repetitive at all was the endurance races. I absolutely loved them and it's a shame they were pretty much cut in Gran Turismo 6. I hope that they return in Gran Turismo 7.
A better question is what racing game doesn't get repetitive? As much content as GT6 has it can't be any more or less repetitive than current racing games out there.
I suppose it depends on how much you get engrossed in the games or how much you love the games to not care/notice if it gets repetitive. As I said previous I don't really find it repetitive starting from scratch with each new game to the series but that's just me. I look on it as a new challenge.
Most racing games get tiring if you play them every single day. To me GT is s special case because you have a huge amount of cars to choose from and a pretty decent collection of circuits so it never really feels repetitive for me.
Depends how you look at it. Looking from a very basic standpoint yes, but add on the different stories, modes, ways you can do things it does make games somewhat individual. So you could say all games are the same, they just add their own spin on the basics.

Agreed. When their focus is basic racing then there's not much you can do to change it up since doing so would just move the theme farther away from the one it's most identified with.
This is true. What can be done is add more variety like the obvious cars and tracks but mix it up a bit like give different game or career modes where no racing series really feels the same.
Yeah I guess the most they can do is career mode and maybe they could take a page off of other sports games where you could play season manager. I'm not too interested in those though and I'd much rather just get a drifting or takedown mode.
It's a racing game. You start from the starting line, usually last, try to out-drive your opponents, and reach the finish line first. Repeat that infinite times, just change the course a little bit, but the game mechanics are still the same. That's basically a realistic racing game. Unlike games like Crash Bandicoot Racing or Mario Kart, where there are a bunch of cartoonish map layouts and even powerups like weapons and traps, racing games like F1 and Gran Turismo are sadly lacking on those, and it makes these games incredibly boring for me.
Same for me. It's what I've always kind of wondered about realistic racing games and the fans for it, but I suppose a lot of them just like pure racing and the cars. I myself get bored almost instantly with those because I prefer having more objectives other than just finishing first.
I don't think it's getting repetitive. It's a racing simulator, if you like racing and cars you'll find fun in each race because you can do thing different and try to improve.
I don't think it's any more repetitive than any other games in similar genres. I get that the realistic simulation aspects of the game might not be for everyone, but Gran Turismo is one of the top series when it comes to racing simulations. There is other franchises out there if you want a more arcadey approach to racing.
Some don't mind that. They could play over and over and over and even though they keep winning they'll be in for it to outdo themselves. Can they improve their lap times? It's the [new] challenges that keep some playing. For me the only racing game I'd find boring are games like MotoGP and Nascar.
I think the are thinking, if it ain't broke don't fix it. They are bringing in new cars and that's a good thing but the game can't base itself only on that. It would be good if it expanded into other areas, but for now it's still the best of it's type there is.
