In my opinion, there’s a reason why horror games these days are just plain bad, because they focus way too much on graphics and gameplay instead of story. A lot of people may not understand but story is what drives people’s emotion. Sure, graphics are great. It’s hard to see The Last of Us with bad graphics, it may not have the emotional impact like it did but it’s hard to say whether or not it will do it’s emotional impact if the story wasn’t up to quality. For example, I really enjoyed Until Dawn but the plot itself was a little bit weird, even if it was trying to replicate the common horror game tropes. What are your thoughts on current horror games?

I think they are very well made and way more sophisticated than the older ones but I've never been as fond of horror games as I was horror movies, so I'm a little biased. As long as the storyline depends more on psychological scares than jumps scares or monsters I'm all for it.

I enjoyed games like resident evil and silent hill back in the day just like everyone else. There are lots of zombie games being published these days that are subpar, but that could be because of the increase in video game developers and titles lately.

Until Dawn story was pretty good and yet could have been better. I think it did its job well and had my on the edge of my seat at times. The other horror game that was overly popular was Alien: Isolation. That game was great and quite frankly left me a nervous wreck when playing it.

It could also be that we're just getting tired of zombies. I know I am. I'm still hoping for a game that would lean more towards psychological scares rather than monsters chasing you, but I know it's hard to pull off as even most movies can't do that and merely resort to monsters killing everyone.
