Gran Turismo 6 Why can't they fix the dumb AI?

The current AI are better than the AI at launch, I don't see the cars nose dip/rear end lift when they are breaking suddenly and they aren't as clumsy anymore. I do wish there would be some proper racing and defensive driving from the AI however I go online if I want to race talented drivers

 

You can select difficulty and aggression in arcade
If you are very determined you can run them off the road. I tried one day.
If you are parked on the driving line they will go around...
And on occasion the finishing order on some of the more evenly matched series will change up some.
There is AI in there. Just not the most brilliant.

 

The AI now is better but still pretty dodgy. For some reason since GT4 the AI has been quite weird. Not sure why but other games definitely do AI better like Forza.

 

Cool analysis of the AI there. It's interesting to note that the game has some of the best graphics ever seen in a racing game then all of a sudden have very simplistic AI tucked under its fan belt.

This is what I want too. I wish that the AI was more reactive rather than just content at racing a predetermined path.

For a game that prides itself in being the best car racing sim on the planet, they sure failed to simulate the reactions of rival racers.

 

Yeah, all this is true. Gt has been one of my fave franchises since way back. I've played them all and as good as the games are that's as bad as the AI is. It is infuriating. Truly some of the worst driving game or otherwise. If not for the terrible AI GT could be one of the best. What was forgivable in the first two or three games is now getting embarrassing.

 

I'd have to say that a lot of racing games have terrible AI mechanics, to say the least.

 

They feel content with the current AI, and they don't get a huge amount of complaints over it as far as I know. Aside from that, the real appeal of the game is the multiplayer, so most people don't spend that much time playing against AI, at least I don't.

 

I have to agree with Kasey I think it's either they were just not up to the challenge which I think is unlikely, or they just want to make it more friendly to casual gamers who might not enjoy it too much if the AI was too much of a threat.

 

Yeah, it really sucks how dumb the AI can get sometimes. There's definitely better done AI on other racing games, even previous GT games seemed to have superior AI, so what happened? Why is the AI this dumb this time around?

 

Pretty much the AI of racing games, sadly. They just follow the tracks, maybe with a few tips and tricks built in here and there, but most of the time they are just there so you have something to overtake, and someone to feel accomplished when you get first place. Either the AI is too fast to catch up to, or the AI is just fast enough to get a lead at first until you start accelerating and you go past them. That's pretty much it.

 

Yeah, I agree with you, it's definitely one of the things that they should fix, but in my opinion is way better than a couple years ago. I'm sure the next game will be better, it's not even that bad nowadays in my opinion.

The AI in both GT5 and GT6 are totally useless. They cars act like scripted robots following a certain path. I prefer online racing because at least you get to race against real drivers.

 

Well I guess they didn't do a great job in developing this game. Hopefully they would get it right next time.

 

The a.i is not an easy thing to fix unfortunately.
But I agree that the a.i, in Gran Turismo 5 at least, is infuriating. They make no effort to avoid you whatsoever. I think the only other game where a.i pissed me off this much is Need for Speed Shift 2.

But then again, bugs in any game can't really be avoided.

 

True, but the ones that can't be avoided should be minor
