Do night scenes in racing games distract you?

I don't know if it is my old age, but modern games have become too realistic for their own good. I find that sometimes I have to squint, especially in low-light levels/games. I find this particularly true in the app game "Speed Night" and "CSR Racing", but there are others as well, such as GTA V".

 

You could try adjusting the contrast and brightness settings and see if it helps. Overall yes I find it harder to drive at night even in games, but it adds to the realism and challenge of it!

 

I would think that having night races there would be a higher level of skill and a drop in vizability, So if you're having a hard time watching or playing it, I guess it's working.

 

I think most people have a harder time with night scenes in games. There's one game I played where you'd hardly even see the road and had to race in almost total darkness for short distances . . . and if you don't have a car in front whose tail lights you'll use as some kind of 'guide', you'll crash.

Funny thing is though it's pretty hard to win, it doesn't stop me from tackling night races.

 

They don't really distract me, but I think that racing during that time is a little harder. Sometimes it's harder to see the things on the road, so you have to play the game a little bit to learn where some things are, so you don't bump into them.

 

I don't find that night levels distract me, I like not being able to see everything. It adds to the suspense of games, and makes it much more interesting than just drive as fast as you can from point A to point B. CSR racing, I have played it, but I don't have any problem with seeing anything on the game, so I don't know what to say about that.

 

I think that's the whole point of night races. Night races tend to be harder; a smaller range of vision gives you a more difficult time, specially when you're trying to dodge objects or cars. As you've said, it's all in the name of making the game more "realistic". So I do find them slightly distracting, even though it is expected to be that way.

 

Here's the thing, night scenes never really bothered me. Now, if it was a pitch black scene where you can't even see your car, yeah, they'd bug me. However, in most of the racing games I've played I never had that problem. Now, scenes when the SUN is setting always rubbed me the wrong way. Mostly, it's the blinding effect of the sunlight and the reflection it would cause on the window.

 

I usually like night scenes in racing games but it depends on how its done, some can look really gorgeous or in some cases they are just completely dark as hell for no reason without any thought put into the night stage.

 

I like the night scenes in games. But I need to be careful because I can't see or barely visible of the cars or the roads in the games.

 

Night environments in racing games are meant to be more distracting because of the lights and blurring visuals, which makes the games more authentic and challenging. It's harder to drive at night than in the day after all.

 

I think it looks pretty cool at night. I mean, the graphics are darker and all, but it does provide a scene that's just as nice as the morning.

 

Well I think that's kind of the point, really, it's supposed to be a bit harder, a bit more challenging to focus. I actually love night scenes overall though, I think the extra little challenge is nice.

 

I usually set my games so that they are a bit brighter than the recommended setting so I don't really run into this problem.
Usually night scenes are pretty cool, especially if rain is also involved.

 

I like night racing myself. They don't really distract me, but racing games have become a lot more realistic.

It really depends on the person for me it's really distracting when there's night scenes in a racing game I'm playing, but it's because of my sight defect, but it's also really annoying too, and not only for me, but for some of my friends too and probably for other people also.

 

I always enjoy the day to night changes in racing games. Especially when the graphics are really good. I especially like driving against mother nature in video games whether it be rain, hail or snow.

 

Not at all, I love to try night/day versions of known tracks so I get to admire its true beauty- i.e. the Singapore F1 circuit springs to mind. Having it wet as well really ramps up the difficulty.

 

Agreed, I like driving in rain and darkness in games because it adds realism. I remember being so impressed the first time I saw realistic weather and light changes in a game. I think it was Shenmue for Dreamcast. Back then it was a big deal that it got dark in the game at 6PM and sometimes randomly rained or snowed.

 

Night races are a challenge that I'm always willing to take up in racing games that get them right.
