Overall, I think that, unless the game requires the additional specialized controllers (Like Dance Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero), I don't think things like that are needed. I mean, those gun controllers for shooter games like Time Crisis were cool, but they don't really make those kinds of games anymore. I don't really think that a steering wheel controller is necessary for the enjoyment of the game.

I'm right there with you- I think the steering wheel adds another element to it and makes it a lot more entertaining, but I don't have the extra money in my budget right now for video game extras, so regular controller it is when I'm playing at home. I'd definitely get one if I had the extra money, though.

I don't have the luxury of owning a steering wheel, but I do intend to purchase one if it becomes cheaper. Not on its own though, controller pedals and a gearbox are also needed for a full immersive experience.

Like many others, I used to use one but now it's just sitting in the corner of my room. I think controllers are fine for casual play. I might bust out my steering wheel again when there are new releases but for now I'm content using a controller

I'd really like to, but the one that I bought broke after 2 days. I guess the really low price tag and the engrish on the box should've made me raise an suspicious eyebrow. Bought it anyways, played a bit of RACE 07 with it, it had HORRIBLE steering, in the way that you try to steer a bit, it gets you into the wall.

Broke after 2 days, still have it in a closet somewhere.

Right now I don't, I had a really cheap one a few years ago that I rarely used. I'm hoping to get one fairly soon though, I'm waiting for the Oculus Rift and probably getting a G27 to go with it. The Rift should take racing games and even most simulator games to the next level in terms of immersion and I'm really looking forward to it.

Not too sure how the Rift could coordinate with the inputs of a steering wheel though, as they are separate controllers. If they could somehow be combined though I guess it would be pretty amazing.

Yes i had one gaming steering wheel when i was young. It was for my Play Station One setup and i played games like Formula I and common. I also had the pedal for brake and gas so i could feed as a real racer. I don't have it now when i am playing computer games but i feel like i don't really need it because games are easy enough to play with my keyboard.

Gaming steering wheels are more of a novelty, really. They are pretty fun for a while, but get quite boring quite soon. They offer a more realistic feeling for racing, but unless you are a professional or something, getting one would be a waste. The main reason they get boring is because they are compatible with such a select number of games only.

I use a steering wheel from time to time. It adds a fun element to racing games when you're playing with friends in the same vicinity. I prefer controllers for my usual racing endeavors, otherwise, though.

The steering wheel is something that I always liked in racing games. Though, it takes some getting use to because you actually are driving. You have to play as if you actually in a car which gives the games a different feel.

I don;t have right now, but I am planning to buy one soon. I's definitely more fun to play with steering.

Yeah playing on the steering wheel probably is a lot more fun with friends since I assume most of us already are familiar with controllers so this adds a bit of an extra challenge and thus creates a bit more screw ups and hilarity.

If I had the resources i'd get one with the gear shift and the 3 pedals. But sadly I don't. I watch youtubers with their thrustmasters and g27's and its seems like they have fun with it. I played with a wheel before with the force feedback and I just love the realistic feel of it. Not to mention the precision, a wheel can offer 900 degree rotation. While with a controller there is only how far you push your thumbstick.

I have to save up for a new steering wheel. I did have one when I was dating my ex and he took it because he had paid for it. That's the only thing that I miss about him though. I miss that wheel! ;)

Nope, I never use a steering wheel for playing racing games. I just can't seem to get to grips with them and I have tried. I much prefer to use standard controls or tilt on a mobile device for some games (but not many).

I don't currently use a steering wheel, but I plan to purchase one once I get the extra spending money. For now, a wheel just isn't worth it. By the way, does anyone know of any cheap racing wheels? I have been looking for some, but I can't really decide on one that I should start saving up for also, which is impeding me getting one.

Yes I do. It's a lot more comfortable and feels right at home for racing games. I've tried using keyboard/mouse but it feels quite clunky. I think it has to do with the fact I was also at arcades a lot when I was growing up.

Not the biggest fan of using a steering wheel, honestly. For me, analog sticks are the way to go and what I feel the most comfortable with. Maybe it isn't the best experience in terms of how realistic it is, but I definitely get some better results out of my races for it.

You're right. I'm honestly a bit skeptical with how well VR technology would integrate with gaming but I think using it in racing games would be one of the most fun and ideal since you won't need to move your head as much .
