Is Sony backing this more than Gran Turismo?

I know this may sound dumb, because there can be two good racing titles on a console, but it's kind of weird seeing another racing game done under Sony when you have Gran Turismo which is also done under Sony. So, will this be a problem? I honestly don't think so, I have a feeling both games will do great and I really hope both games do great.

No, it's not like that. Sony is not backing it more than GT or the other way around. I think they are paying more attention to this game right now as this is their lunch title and it has to be really good, so that it appeals to people. Hence, the extensive attention.

Yeah, since DriveClub would be released earlier than Gran Turismo 6, it's normal for Sony to give more support to it than Gran Turismo. It's part of their launch titles for crying out loud. If you were Sony, won't you give more importance to the game that is currently at hand?

Sony will support the games which will come out at launch, simple as that. Launch games are essential for the PS4 to be a hit - there's no way they aren't supporting it more than Gran Turismo.

It makes sense to back them both. Sony can't know for sure which one will be a hit and which one will flunk. They ought to play it safe.

I've never gotten the appeal of Gran Tourismo, but am incredibly excited for Drive Club, so maybe they are focusing on this title a little more for the moment to appeal to a new audience. It's great to have the title that already has built in fans like GT, but as with any franchise, it usually grows stale, and focusing on Drive Club will provide them with some insurance for this, I think, which is good in my opinion, because I think Drive Club is going to be very different from older racing game titles.

They were more focused on this because it was gonna be a launch title, I guess. Gotta push the launch line-up to get these early purchasers.

I don't think Sony would want one to do better than the other. They have a lot invested in both so, they want both to do great.

I think what you are seeing is typical in marketing....make a big splash. They would have no incentive to torpedo another one of their own products. As you can tell from the threads here there is a great deal of competition as well as expectation from the users. Keeping several "oars in the water" would not be a bad idea to keep interest.

I think Sony is backing both but the marketing strategy is a friendly competition between two PlayStation exclusive games. Both will try there hardest to win over gamers and the one with the best overall game wins. I think it's a good idea to have more competitors, it keeps everyone pushing their own limits and therefor giving gamers a better experience.

I don't think they are, Polyphony make great games, but have so far proved themselves completely unable to stick to a timetable to get work done. The PS4 would do great if it had a first party driving sim that they could count on being released every two or three years as microsoft has with Forza. GT games simply take far too long to be counted on, we had to wait like 4 years before the first, first party racing game was released on PS3. Far too long.

You're right. I think they were just hyping it more because it is fresh and people are still unaware of it. Plus, it was supposed to be a launch title which would have helped them sell consoles further.

I'd say they will eventually hype both games equally but have chosen to hype up Drive Club more because the release is sooner. When the new GT comes out you will be seeing lots of ads on TV about it, I''m sure of it. In the end Sony wants money so I'm pretty sure they're hoping for good sales for both games

I think they're very focused on this game because it was supposed to be a launch title. The huge marketing it is getting is probably sony saying something like "look, here's the game we promised a year ago!" So, of course, they have to advertise it a lot so people see that they actually came through in the end.

You're right. They were using it a lot to hype their new console but it ended up getting delayed significantly so they have to make up for it by a bit more marketing so people will be aware that it's still a contender.

Exactly, Sony wouldn't want all that hype to be for nothing and even though they were not able to meet up with the expectations of being a launch title, the game still has the potential to be a very good game. It wouldn't make sense to simply stop supporting the game after all the effor they put into it. I think the fanbase would be furious if the game were to never be released.

You're right. I know I would be if I were as hyped about this game as I was when I first saw it at announcement, and surely there are others that are. Though, I'm sure there are also others like me who have just lost interest too. Hopefully, they come out with really good justifications for why the game was delayed so long and still end up successful. I'm hoping the game will still win me back because it looks so good that I really want to like it.

I'm pretty sure we will never find out about the real reasons the game was delayed for so long. It's probably got to do with some internal errors that they won't tell us because it would honestly make them look like amateurs in the eyes of the public. I wouldn't give up on it yet though, after a rough period people often try as hard as they can to deliver a good product and I'm sure it will be the case here too!
