The Gran Turismo series has always had a career mode wherein you buy cars, join races, pass license tests. You can do anything that you want. However, there's no story whatsoever. Everything is left to your imagination. In the next Gran Turismo, do you think it would be nice to have a story mode? Maybe you'll have allies and rivals and you'll get to walk around town and talk to some drivers and date girls and stuff?

It will be great to see GT with a story. I wish it could be a long story, following the career of a racer and how he makes his money, adversaries, politics of sponsors and cool parties. I think the story for GT has to be different from other racing games and there should be some great voice overs.

I'm glad to know that somebody agrees with me here. Gran Turismo has become, how should I put this, a bit bland these past few installments. Yes, the graphics are awesome and the handling is still great, but there's nothing that makes it "new". Your suggestions would do good in a GT story mode. I wonder if the developers would be interested in incorporating this mode in the next installment.

Yes definitely needs a story mode. This will make the game what it used to be. It has been on a bit of a downslide these past few years.

No thanks. I prefer the more professional approach it already has.

    What? Downslide? Seriously?
    GT6 is absolutely excellent..

I think it would be nice. I've seen storylines work on racing games before, and a lot of other games that I never thought needed to have plots certainly gave me a pleasant surprise at times so I think it could definitely work if it were done well and not just done for the sake of it.

Yes I think it would be great for GT 6 to have a story mode I love racing games but I also like games where you can interact a lot so it would be the best of both games for me.

I think that's a great idea. As many here have said, the fact that it doesn't have a story mode makes it a but bland at times. I love Gran Turismo, but I also love games with a great story mode. I know a racing game won't uave the most amazing story ever, but a bit of background to your races wouldn't hurt anyone. Grid is a series that does story mode very well, it gives you an incentive to keep racing because you're accomplishing something other than just winning a race.

Yes, absolutely. Stories are mostly what drive me to play on in games. Even shitty side-quest stories are enough to get me going to the next objective. Medals and acheivements just don't do it as much.

I'd like a story. It doesn't have to be anything that's in depth and detailed to every point. Just a little bit of a back story and some goals to accomplish for the main character would be enough for me. I'd be fine without it but a story would just be a nice little touch I'd enjoy.

Definitely, Gran Turismo is in desperate need of some innovation to attract anyone else than the fans of the game/genre. The career mode is not enough to keep new players hooked and a story would definitely make me play the game more. Don't get me wrong, I love the game but I don't think it's attractive for new players at all.

I feel that such a story would be pretty linear and unsurprising. Small time racer starts off at the bottom, unexpectedly performs well and climbs to the big leagues, finally beats long-standing champion in a final showdown to be the new world no. 1...

At least with the Need For Speed series, there is more room to weave a better sounding story, as you can include police, rival gangs and fellow drivers in your crew to spice things up. The backdrop of professional racing takes a lot of possibilities out of the equation.

There should still be enough drama in the racing world too right? Things like your car parts not being delivered on time, causing you to have to ride a different vehicle etc. Just small things like that will make the game just a tad bit more fun and unexpected. I do agree that stories like Need for Speed are probably better but that's, in my opinion, no reason to completely neglect the possibility of adding one to a game like Gran Turismo. there's a lot of creative people on the world, I bet they could come up with something new and not cliché

I would be on board with that idea, I think it could add another element that GT is lacking, and it's not like you'd *have* to focus on that if the story mode isn't really your thing. I think story modes leave a little more room for surprises than just your run of the mill racing or even career mode in most games.

It is always nice for a game to get a new feature, as long as this means the other already existing features will be well optimised and won't lack anything.

I think a story mode would be great, as it would provide more stuff to do. It would also be really cool if it wouldn't follow the standard "racing movie/game" cliches.

To add onto what I said earlier, I think one of the things that can be done is have your purchases effect how the story develops, perhaps if you choose a certain brand you will get discounts on further purchases and less discount on other brands. I think this might be a fun addition to the whole buying / selling system that is already there. What do you guys think?

Need for Speed has dabbled with stories in the past and I didn't like it at all. I doubt Gran Turismo could do it any better. Also, the more work they put towards a story mode, the less improved the actual racing mechanics.

I don't know if it needs a story mode, but the game is becoming a bit repetitive and bland. They need to change it up in order for me to continue buying each new version. I don't see the point at this time. It doesn't have to be a story mode, but the game definitely needs some new features.

It would be great with a story mode! Something that a lot of other racing stories haven't done are following the story of the car, not the driver. I had an idea that maybe the story could follow that of one car, and the 3-5 drivers it goes through, each with different experiences. Like gmckee1985 said above me, the game is becoming repetitive and in my opinion a story mode would indeed help.

I mean, it's a racing game based on high-performance cars (mostly haha) and racing around the world. It doesn't really need a story mode to explain that. You can simply pretend you're a famous racer or something competing in tournaments.

What the game needs is more innovative features.
