I would love to see GTA VI feature an infinite story. I don't know how they could implement it, but something along the lines of having your own mafia, maybe even cities etc. intrigues me. That would spice up singleplayer.
The only way I can see them doing something like this is through the random events system, much like how it works now really. You get a call from your crew saying a rival gang is attacking, you get to the area and help fend off waves of rivals until the time runs out or something.
I guess with the amount of realism they add each time it is inevitable that they will one day reach the point where everything happens in real time. I don't know how this would work but it's probably close to what you have in mind and I think that's a long way away but still very interesting.
I don't think an infinite story is realistic if you want it to be of a consistent quality. I'd rather have a short and amazing story than a long drawn out one.
I have to agree with this and as I've said before I think, the only way you would get something similar to an infinite story is to have random events happen like they do now but a lot more frequently.
You're probably right, or maybe they will be able to do it and pull it off someday. If anyone can pull off such a massive task it would be them, but I think I'm with you on this one. Being someone who's not really into storylines that much, I think a self contained story would still be better.
I've had a thought about this over night and would an infinite story work by adding to it over time in sort of chapter format? For instance chapter one contains 30 missions and then later on in the year chapter 2 is released which contains another 30 missions and starts from chapter one left off.
It could definitely work if they did it like that. Gamers would have to be okay with paying for it as DLC though. Considering the development cost for something like this that would be the only way to do it, realistically speaking.
DLCs for GTA V would be a pretty good money maker since the game is popular enough. A lot of people would buy it, especially if it adds to the story more.
Oh, I'm sure they will sell. I'm just wondering how long it would take for them to release them though. The online heists took almost a year and a half to release, so that's another factor to take into account.
I think GTA fans would pay for this if they pulled it off. Something like a monthly subscription could probably work, but after a while it might start to feel like a soap opera.
Monthly subscription would be the downfall of the GTA series I think. DLC though is the likely way something would work and they could have it like the did with IV by releasing DLC creating different characters and stories.
Yeah, I would never pay for a monthly subscription for any game. That's the reason I'm never going to play Final Fantasy XIV. DLC is definitely the way to go if they do this, it's the only way it would make any sense.
I mean something like that could become about maintaining your own gang. Then if it is online based then you can attempt to takeover other peoples territory and even recruit others into your group. Hell, cause people to be traitors and take out their own group. It could work but will it be as huge as we think it might be? Most likely it probably will be hyped for a few weeks and then quickly die out.
I really like this idea and far from lasting a few weeks I can see it lasting a few years at least given the popularity of the series and the fact that Rockstar would no doubt do it justice. It would be difficult to make it work for different gangs though and the way I can see it working is if you're playing online/offline and another player of your crew is attacking an area, you get an alert come up asking if you want to join. Same sort of thing for defending territory. An alert comes up and asks if you want to join that server.
I think this would be a good way of going about it but at this point it will probably be a different game altogether. Maybe a spinoff title would be in order if this happens.
They could make it always-online (of course, many will not agree with this), and the events are pushed in real time from their servers, making GTA VI like an MMO game. With surprise events and patches, it wouldn't really be an infinite story (nothing is truly infinite, after all), but it would prolong the game's life by a lot.
I quite like that idea but they could also do the same thing with offline play too. They are doing a similar thing to what you said with V at the moment and it's kind of annoying how single-player mode seems to be left out of a lot of stuff. At least add some of the content...
I definitely would like to see that actually. If they made some sort of MOBA style GTA I think that would be great because there are lots of elements that they could put a spin on to differentiate themselves from all the usual MOBA / MMO tropes.
