Today, at Microsoft's Gamescom conference, they showed a few minutes of Forza 6 gameplay. As it turns out, Forza 6 will have "3D puddles" and realistic rain effects. Now, many people have laughed at what they were showing, but if the rain drops will behave like the ones on Driveclub, then I am pretty excited!

Why were they laughing at it?

From what I've seen the rain effects look pretty good.

I saw this too and although it's a pretty small thing in the long run, it'll surely be extremely awesome to race when it's rainy outside. Curious to see if they have more cool, little additions like this one.

They do, but I guess it was kind of silly to dedicate a 3-minute conference slot solely for an interview about rain effects.

    I guess it is really.

I suppose they just wanted to brag about how good their 3D puddles are and stuff. And while the weather effects may be good looking and have a great effect on racing, I will be impressed if your wheels actually appear to be in the water of a puddle which 3D puddles implies, rather than just on top of it.

Lol that is kind of funny. I think like many things the masses don't really appreciate the work that goes into the products we use so I'm not surprised. I'm guilty of that too, admittedly, but I try to keep myself reminded of how impressive every little detail of all our modern conveniences and innovations.

From playing the demo the rain and puddle effects are game changes to an extend. The rain looks incredible, the atmosphere created by the rain feels perfect and you really have to watch yourself if you're driving in the puddles.

LOL, what? Did they really just do that? They must be really proud of their special effects and VFX artists if they dedicated a conference for rain droplets. Haha!

Turn 10 and the lead guy behind the Forza series (I forget his name) have always boasted their graphical achievements any chance they can get. Notice on every article about the game you'll notice at least a little snippet about how the game runs stable at 60fps, for instance.

I can't wait to try this out for myself. I'm looking forward to seeing how puddles would affect my driving and at the same time I am just amazed at how detailed games are getting now.

The puddles have a pretty realistic effect. If you put a wheel in one it pulls you towards it and if you're going through one in a RWD car then you need to exercise extreme car so as not to spin.

That's pretty neat. I bet because of these small details it would be one of the games that could actually be more fun to play with a racing wheel and pedal since the realism will probably lend itself very well to those types of controls.

A company is releasing a wheel specifically for Forza 6 soon I believe. It actually looks really good too, it's sort of like a racing wheel but made for gaming.

I'm looking forward to entering an online rain race using the lowest class of car. It's gonna be great fun and lead to some bump-an-run action.

I agree, especially if everything else is very realistic. It would be very interesting to see how that would play out. As for the official racing wheel, that sounds pretty cool and hopefully they will add something new or make it better rather than just taking existing technology and slapping their logo onto it.

The wheel does look pretty amazing and it comes with a backplate that has all the buttons and flappy paddle shifting that can be bolted on to the back of the wheel so that it appeals to full real players and others alike.

The rain is already producing some remarkable pictures in the form of puddle reflections.

Hmm. Yes, that would be also reasonable.

Most devs who ignore these kind of little things, most of the time end up ruining the gaming experience for players.

These puddles in Forza Motorsport 6 are pretty cool, just like in real life- when your car hits the puddles on the Forza 6 tracks, it sloshes through it. When the wheels hit the water drag and then one side of your car starts going much slower than the other side, bad things can happen.
