With graphics reaching a peak as far as realism goes what are some concepts that you would like to see employed in future racing games for next-gen consoles? Realistic shifting perhaps? One thing I've always thought of is -- they have games with open world racing now, but it's not truly open world, just states and cities that are a shell of their former selves. What if someone creating a genuine map of the entire United States?

I think we need to start crossing the racing aspect with other things, for example looking at Rocket League, it is involving a lot of crazy stuff and getting a lot of recognition for it. I wouldn't mind some sort of more indepth survival/zombie racing game.

Next Gen racing games, to be paired with Virtual Reality sets, have a pair of hands like most modern games do and design an interactive interior of the race car making and fulfilling the complete racing experience.

For me I'd like to see racing games come in two versions: the arcade and sim version.

Though not everyone likes arcade racing and not everyone likes Sim racing if they can create two versions of the game then you could play your one favorite game all the time.

Improvements in AI will always be one of the big goals of racing game developers. I'd like to see VR implementations into racing games. With Oculus and other VR headsets available, I see a lot of this stuff coming soon.

I'm pretty sure VR gaming will be the next big thing, and racing games are one of the easier ones to make compared to FPS/RPG, since you're really just sitting there with a headset on instead of moving about.

It is true they are simpler than other game genres. It will be interesting how we will be able to cope with the VR experience of a moving vehicle. It's amazing when you see those roller coaster VR experiences where you see people falling down.

I'm just hoping developers start innovating and getting crazy with it again. Far too much attention is being given to graphics and realism in my opinion and I'm not personally that interested with that and instead would just like to see unique mechanics being implemented.

I think the biggest jump right now is going to be VR racing. It's not exactly a completely new idea, but it's now a complete possibility. I'm very excited about it and think they should focus on perfecting it before focusing on newer advances to the racing genre.

I don't think that VR racing games are going to be launched anytime soon. It will take some time.

I think that it will take a lot time and we would only be able to experience virtual reality in future.

I can't wait until they introduce VR to racing games, that would feel like the most realistic experience if you play with a steering wheel.

Playstation VR is coming out this year and Driveclub is one of the titles that is set to work with it. VR racing games are definitely coming soon.

I would like for a new game to have the option to use a gaming wheel + brakes and a gear pad. The incorporation of virtual reality technology would also be appreciated.

It's possible to use all those accessories but it all depends on the gaming hardware you've got.
I think game developers should focus on making better games [and make them compatible with all VR headsets on the market] while VR developers also work in improving their VR headsets. I think within 5 years VR would have been perfected.

I'd say we have to wait to see how VR does in the market before saying it'll be perfected so soon. The progress it'll have depends entirely on how well people receive VR in the first place.

I don't think there is any. Racing is just that, you start at the starting line, race through your opponents, and get to the finish line first. There hasn't been any real change through the years, only with graphics and realism. Unlike games like Crash Team Racing or Mario Kart, where you get new characters, new weapons, and new maps, realistic racing games have hit a ceiling, and would probably never reach anything more.

Google should start making video games and they could produce a racing games based off of google earth. They got most of the world mapped out already. I'm sure they could come up with a AI that could auto replicate building based on google earth pictures.

Besides that, realism is the key component here. We need to feel the gravity forces on racing games with a hydraulic chair. All games can benefit from that.

Well, this technology is already available but you need the money to afford the wheels and brakes.

Yes, that's a great idea. Google is the leader of the technological world and if they start making games, it would be really wonderful.
